Many movers will say it is worth it, as they make more money, the more you send, but it depends on numerous factors. For example:
Will your American dark cherry heavy furniture look right in sunny Spain?
Will your IKEA furniture travel well half way around the world?
Will your Florida rattan furniture look good in your Swiss Chalet?
Will your Californian king size bed and furniture fit in your quaint English cottage you are thinking of buying?
OK these are extremes but spending thousands of dollars sending furniture overseas that you might not use is also extremely wasteful of your bank balance.
However, there are times when furniture is worth taking. You know everything will fit well and look good in your new overseas home and buying new at the destination might cost a fortune. So what is the best way of shipping furniture overseas having established it is worth it?
As a rule of thumb, I would always say if you are thinking of shipping some furniture, you might as well ship the lot. Sending just a few pieces is not normally cost effective. Either leave it all behind and just ship all your personal stuff or ship a container full of all your personal stuff and your furniture.
We get quite a few requests from customers wanting to ship for example 20 boxes and a mattress or a sofa. We always point out to them that shipping the mattress or sofa with the boxes is probably doubling the cost of just shipping the boxes and it might be cheaper to buy a new sofa or mattress whatever fond memories you have from it, than shipping it with your boxes.

In most cases if you want to ship furniture, you might as well ship the whole lot and ship it in a 20-foot or a 40-foot shipping container. A 20-foot container is about the size of a single garage and yes, you guessed it, a 40-foot container is about the size of a 2-car garage.
The most economical way of shipping a container is packing and loading it yourself, letting UPakWeShip do everything in between and then you unload and unpack everything at your new house overseas. Either way, my advice is go and visit in advance and make sure your furniture is worth shipping. If you are going to ship furniture, ship everything in a container.
