2/ Travel lightly, I use a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet, lightweight and powerful enough to handle everything I do.
3/ Use a VPN so that you are still secure when logging onto airport and hotel internet networks. I don’t really understand how this works but I’m sure your IT person or techy friend can help you get one set up for you.
4/ Get a Transfer Wise account so you can easily transfer money from one country to another and pull out cash using a debit card from an ATM. Having offices in the UK and Europe its handy for me to get cash in Euros and UK Pounds and seeing most places in Holland don’t take credit cards I can use my debit card connected to my Wise account.
5/ Ship extra items that you can’t easily take with you by using UPakWeShip’s U Crate 50 or U Crate 100 service. Even if you are only moving overseas for a year, it’s great to have a few of your personal items with you. I would ship my Piano keyboard, amp and a few accessories with some extra clothes, a few pictures, maybe my inflatable SUP, some tools and my rather large, very loud blue tooth speaker!
Extra tip store the U Crate flat packed and keep if for your return in case you get home sick or the boss wants you to relocate back to the office!

Countdown To Moving Day
It’s approaching quickly – the day when you’ll be saying goodbye to your belongings and they’ll be traveling on a ship around the world! Try not to be stressed; you hired experts that will help you each step of the way. Here is a checklist for your move, laid out in achievable increments:

2+ Months Before
You know you’re moving overseas. You’ve found UPakWeShip to be a perfect match for your needs. You’ve contacted us and spoke with our friendly and experienced staff. Here’s a few other things that can help:
Have a clean-out at home. Haven’t used it/worn it/seen it in the last year? Give it to a friend, sell it online, or at a yard sale. Consider donating items.
Create a space (a spare bedroom, garage, or basement) to put items you’ve packed already. This will keep down on the clutter in the rest of your home.
Tell everyone you know that you are moving. You may find your friends have contacts in your new destination that you can talk to and meet.

1 Month Before
Have your UPakWeShip documents signed and returned to your coordinator.
Do you have an address at your destination? Forward this to your coordinator asap.
Keep on clearing out your house, don’t forget electronics may not work in your new home. Buying adaptors for every electronic may not be cost-effective.
Are you planning on putting anything in storage in the US? Now is the time to arrange a location and start moving things to the storage unit. We offer warehouse storage in a crate which is a lot cheaper than self-storage lockers. Just ask for our rates and options!
Consider and consolidate which US bank accounts you are going to keep open for paying any US bills and also for keeping a line of credit open in the US should you return.
Relax! You are already being proactive, you are ahead of the game!

3 Weeks Before
Make sure all of your documents have been signed and returned to your coordinator.
Need to make any adjustments to the size of your shipment? Just let us know if you think your shipment is going to be bigger or smaller than you originally planned.
Make sure your packing supplies have been ordered.

2 Weeks Before
Start packing up any items you are not using. For tips on packing properly, visit our “Pack Like A Pro” presentation Don’t pack your boxes too heavy, this will prevent the boxes from breaking, your items being damaged, and you being injured lifting them.
Start using up your frozen and canned food. Yum. Share your recipes with us!

1 Week Before
You’re feeling the crunch now, but its ok! Finish up the packing, putting the finished boxes in a spot that’ll be easy for you to take outside for loading.
Some things you do not want to pack in a box, and will need to carry with you: passport, tickets, important documents, a multi-tool or a couple screw drivers and alan keys, phone charger, house and car keys…

The Day Before
Finish up the packing. Print out the labels provided by your coordinator and attach them to each box as directed. Tape up each box securely.
Get a good nights sleep. You’ll be glad you did.

Moving Day!
It’s here! You did it! You are prepared and only have to wait for the collection or take your boxes to the drop off location! Your boxes are taped and labeled properly, you’ve completed your inventory, all your paper work has been submitted, your questions are answered, and you’re excited to start your journey. Congratulations! We will take outstanding care of your goods from here to your destination.
Have a nice glass of wine or a Margarita!

Enjoy your trip and safe travels!

With tropical storm Arthur visiting the Eastern Seaboard this 4th July weekend it’s a good time for The Moving Doctors top tips for moving when it’s wet.

1/ Make sure you have waterproof clothing to wear and a decent pair of boots. Moving is emotional and stressful enough without getting cold wet and grumpy!

2/ Put down mats, flat cardboard moving boxes or sheets & towels near the front door and heavy foot traffic areas to stop the wet and dirty feet walking throughout the house and also giving you grip to avoid a slipping injury and possible damage to your stuff.

3/ Keep some towels handy in the house and in the truck. If something gets water on it, dry it immediately.

4/ Use mattress covers, couch covers, trash bags, and shrink wrap to cover any items that could be damaged by the rain. Make sure boxes are sealed with 2 inch plastic tape on all sides and the middle join, top and bottom.

5/ Drive carefully. If you are driving a truck bigger than you are used to take it slowly and don’t feel bad if you think it’s safer to pull over for a bit in heavy rain or wind. Be careful of turns and not seeing other cars, bikes, people and tree limbs. Leave a larger gap between you and car in front of you. The truck will not stop as easily as your mini!

6/ Even if you have insurance from the truck hire company it probably will not cover any damage to your things or if you damage the roof of the truck by going under an overhanging tree or under a low bridge! A moving company will probably not have insurance to cover your things either if they get wet or damaged unless you take out a specific insurance policy where you declare values of your items at an extra cost.

7/ Be very careful on the ramp or lift gate of the truck! While they can have treading on them, they can also get very slippery!

8/ Move all of your stuff into one or two rooms close to the entrance. This will limit the amount of water and leaves that are tracked inside. Same in reverse if everything is being delivered!

9/ Check the weather in advance and if there is a chance for bad weather on your moving day, consider shrink wrapping the boxes and prepare for the worst.

10/ There is nothing more revitalizing than a cup of tea in my opinion! Take breaks, eat some snacks and a warm drink can help you get through the wet moving day!
