DELIVERY: If delivery is excluded then we will not be arranging for your goods to be collected from the port of entry and brought to your home.

INSURANCE: Our standard rates exclude any additional insurance protection coverage over and above our limited liability. For available coverage types please read: Shipping Insurance.

STORAGE: If you are not ready to take delivery of your shipment when it is available, we can make arrangements for warehouse storage for an additional fee.

DEMURRAGE: Demurrage is a fee charged by the destination port if your goods do not clear Customs within a specified amount of time.
This generally occurs when

  1. the shipper does not have the necessary documentation available to clear overseas Customs or
  2. our agent/overseas Customs is not able to reach the shipper because they are not in country or have not left valid contact information.
Every country has different Customs requirements (residency permits, work visa, proof that you lived in the US, inventories translated to the native language, etc.). To ensure that you have everything required by Customs to clear your shipment please contact the Embassy of the country where you are moving, well in advance of leaving the U.S. We will provide you with an ocean bill of lading, but all other Customs documentation is your responsibility.

CUSTOMS DUTIES/TAXES/EXAMS: Generally speaking, most countries allow used personal household effects to be imported duty-free. However every country has different Customs regulations. For further information please contact the Embassy of the country where you are moving, well in advance of leaving the U.S. Although it happens infrequently, U.S. and overseas Customs have the right to inspect or examine your shipment for any reason. Any charges resulting from any exam, inspection or quarantine will be for your account.

HANDLING OF EXTRA-LARGE ITEMS: Our standard rates exclude the handling of any specialty items such as pianos, pool tables, safes, grandfather clocks, etc. If your shipment contains any of these items, we can make special arrangements for additional fees.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT FEES IN THE DESTINATION COUNTRY (IF APPLICABLE): Generally speaking, most countries allow used personal household effects to be imported duty-free. However every country has different Customs regulations. For further information please contact the Embassy of the country where you are moving, well in advance of leaving the U.S.

PORT CONGESTION FEES/EMERGENCY SURCHARGES (IF MANDATED BY THE FMC): In cases where there is more cargo than vessel capacity (such as a port strike, war or a gross trade imbalance) it is possible that the local port authority/steamship line/Federal Maritime Commission could apply a per container surcharge.

CHARGES RELATED TO DIFFICULT ACCESS: Our standard rates exclude any additional labor or trucking charges that would occur because of poor access to your front door, narrow stairwells/staircases/elevators, shortage of parking in front of the house, etc.
