Go Visit first!
Make sure you have enough time to visit the area you want to move to first. We were sure we were going to move to Spain later this year. We have enjoyed visiting Barcelona in the past but thought we would find the perfect town further down the coast. Unfortunately, we did not!
We drove from Barcelona to Malaga and although we still love Spain, we did not find that ideal place we wanted to move to overseas. Nothing ticked all the boxes.
So back to the drawing board. After lots of talks and investigation, we have a good idea again now, where we are moving to next, but are keeping it quiet for the moment. We are still moving to Europe and opening a new UPakWeShip office in Europe but are planning on another destination visit soon before making final plans.
If you are lucky enough to have some options for your next move overseas, make sure you go and visit first. Living and working in a place is not like being on vacation there.

Number 2 rule in my book is; rent before you buy!
In the first year or so, you will explore and find out much more about the destination you moved to overseas. You might find you want to be more in the country or more down town, may be the commute is not good from where you are living, maybe it’s a noisy part of the city, may be the schools are not up to your liking. Until you get to know the place, don’t buy a property. Rent for the first year or two.
