I moved my things from London to Toronto and both Chris and Kristie has been extremely helpful and accommodating. Kristie knowing I have only 2 days back in Toronto helped arranged a last minute move and that saved me from changing my air ticket. I am happy with their service and am now using them again!

We have booked a 20 ft container for our move to Germany. What kind of hardware will be inside the container to fasten ropes, straps, etc.? Are there loops or hooks along the edges to help with that?

Hello Dwayne, there will be tie rings in the corners top and bottom. You will have to purchase your own straps if needed or possibly a load bar to hold everything in place if you needed. They are useful if you have something heavy like a piano or safe or something on wheels that you don’t want it to slide around. Other options as inside of the container is corrugated would be to wedge in 8ft 6 inch 4×2 posts from floor one side to roof the other side to form a large X and place plywood sheets or a mattress in front to hold everything in place.
I suggest however you don’t need to tie or secure anything in place as long as you load everything in there at the same height throughout and tight left to right so if the truck driver jams on his brakes or the ship rolls 45 degrees in a rough sea nothing can move. It doesn’t matter how high you stack the container as long as the floor space it totally covered and loaded tight side to side and front to back.

Get Unpacked! If you used any of our Baggage Services, then your first step will be to set your boxes in the correct rooms. If you used our Shared Container Services or Self Load Crates, then our friendly delivery crew should have done this step for you already! Now that’s out the way, dig in to the box that you packed your favorite item in first! Maybe your Xbox, or perhaps your shoe collection 
Carefully…. ! Take your time unpacking your boxes. Be careful with your box knife or scissors, especially when opening paintings, boxes of clothes, or a sofa as you don’t want to accidently slice it! It is good practice to unpack box by box. Not only will you keep the clutter down, but you’ll also be less overwhelmed versus having half finished boxes all over your beautiful new home!
Double Check each box and packing material is empty before recycling it. It would be a shame for a picture or something precious to make it safely all the way across the ocean only to be accidentally thrown away at your new home.
Delegate Duties delegate some of the clean up work to your kids! Have them help collecting the inevitable mess of used packing materials and empty boxes. Nothing entertains kids more than a box! Our UBox self load crate is an especially popular ‘house’ and has found its way into the hearts of many a youngin’ in their new playroom, backyard, and even a preschool!
Safety First! while moving into a new home and being busy unpacking, it’s easy to get distracted and that is when accidents happen. Keep your box knife and scissors out of reach! Make sure your young kids aren’t getting into anything they shouldn’t be, keep cleaning products up high or install a child lock on a cabinet, set up baby gates on the stairs put the used packing materials into a trash/recycling bag, etc. Keep ‘junior entertained by unpacking a few toys he or she hasn’t seen for a month or two!
Stock The Fridge new house, new beginnings – may as well start off on the right foot! Avoid the usual ‘we just moved so let’s eat out and grab something quickly’ by stocking the fridge with some healthier options and snacks. Pizza and beer was good to sucker/bribe your friends into helping you pack, but try not to blow your diet and exercise routine at your new place!
Touch Up the paint, give the bathrooms a good scrub, vacuum and steam clean the carpets- all of this is much easier to do before you have to shuffle your belongings around!
Have a Sort Out hopefully you did this when you were packing as well, but perhaps now you’ve arrived did you find that the closets are way smaller in your new home? Maybe you don’t have a basement for storage now? Having a sort out now, and donating the items can help limit clutter and storage issues.
Update Your Address on your bills, credit cards, driver’s license, insurance policies, health care, doctors offices, magazine subscriptions, check book, the list goes on and on…
Take Care of any home maintenance issues before putting it off – that leaking faucet? Stain on the carpet? Smudge on the wall? Broken gutter? Take care of it while you are in the “new-house-lets-keep-it-perfect” mentality, or make a list and hire a handyman to help out. Also consider the outside of your home, will you need lawn maintenance service or do you need to buy a mower because the grass is growing like it’s a jungle?

We got a very very competitive rate to have a sole use 20 foot container from the UK to Western Canada. Whilst it is hard work self packing and loading, the cost savings were great. We also could bring everything and nothing got broken!). We paid for door to port (to the inland city we have moved to) and cleared customs ourselves (no charges) and hired a local haulage company to collect and deliver the container for unloading (less than £300). Other agents were quoting £1700 for this piece in Canada alone. Chris in the London office was really helpful and gave us lots of good advice, even when the polar vortex interrupted sailings – and unloading in -25 was quite chilly…..frozen mattresses! Generally a very positive experience! Thanks Chris.

UPakWeShip Colours!

The Moving Doctor from UPakWeShip USA and James from the UPakWeShip UK office recently met up in London for a touristy day. After having tea with the Queen, well nearly, well actually we had a cup of Starbucks in our hands to keep us warm outside the palace gates while we gorped at the windows for a sighting which was about as likely as seeing a Cyberman or Daleks in the tube station……! Any hoo after walking down the mall and crossing over Horse Guards Parade ground we came across this splendid fellow all dressed up in UPakWeShip colours!
After taking a few pictures and posing like proper tourists we walked to Downing Street to see if we could pop in and see the Prime Minister. Well it was Saturday afternoon in January so I guess he was at the sales. So we then walked over to the London Eye and had a great view of London, the sun came out to play (quickly) and then we ate the most expensive hot dog in London followed by watching some dodgy Eastern Europeans try and con tourists on Westminster Bridge over the which upside down cup has the ball hiding in it game. Apparently you can bet for 10 quid but we had just blown that on the Polish hot dogs so gave it a miss!
We then walked, (as you do in England) all the way to the Theater area stopping at numerous pubs (as you do in England) to see a show followed by a great dinner at a Belgium Restaurant (as you do in England) (couldn’t find an Indian)
All in all a great day. If you are thinking about moving to England, don’t forget to go and visit the sights in London. Even if you are from the UK and moving back after a few years its still a great day or weekend away even if you don’t see the Queen!

I’m moving to England, and since I’m not taking much with me, I was worried that I’d have to pay for more capacity than I needed or end up shipping packages individually.
