About The UKThe UK is a country in Europe that is comprised of England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland. It is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system (democratic) as its main form of governing.
The capital city is London and the official language is (you guessed it) English. Around the UK, though, you may hear the occasional recognized languages of Scots, Welsh, Scottish Gaelic and Irish.

Living In The UKIn the UK, especially England and Wales, most people tend to own their own homes or flats (about 64 percent of households). Of course most of the people who rent live in flats so if you haven't established a permanent house in the UK, look for flat rentals.
What is a flat? It's essentially an apartment as most Americans would call it.
As with most countries, living in the UK will cost a bit more in and around cities. The UK, however, has about an 83% urban population so you can tell that the cost of living in the city doesn't turn off most residents of the country.

Healthcare In The UKIn the UK you must register with a GP or general practitioner. You can choose any GP as long as they are accepting new patients and you live within their boundary area. If you plan to move to the UK permanently you get free GP treatment but may include fees for things like prescription medicine.
For emergency treatment it doesn't matter if you plan to live permanently or are temporarily staying there -- you'll get free treatment.
Dental treatment is free for certain British citizens: those that are under 18, pregnant mothers and those that receive certain state benefits. Again you must register with a dentist to receive treatment however it won't be free as in regular healthcare.

Education In The UKState education is free and compulsory for British citizens between the ages of 5 and 16 and follow a national curriculum. Of course, like in the U.S., there are private schools that you can enroll your children in that don't have to follow the national curriculum. And like the U.S., you'll have to pay more than state education to do so.
All private schools must be registered with the government and are inspected regularly -- see the list of private school inspectors here.

Working In The UKIf you're planning on moving to the UK for work, be sure to understand what your working arrangement is and what applicable visa you'll need. There are many types of UK work visas, all depending on your field of occupation. There's everything from the Tier 1 "Exceptional Talent" visa, that allows you work in the UK if you are recognized and endorsed as a leader in the fields of science, humanities, engineering, medicine, digital technology or the arts, to the Tier 2 General work visa for those that have been offered a skill position in the UK.
Many visas take some time to process (up to 3 weeks or more) and you can apply up to 3 months (for most Visas) before your travel date, so keep that in mind before your move.

Moving Your Household Goods To The UK
Shipping Transit Options
Better for smaller shipments, air freight can be costly depending on how much you plan to move, but will take less time in transit to get to the UK. Great for a small box or two.
Perfect for larger shipments. Plan ahead though as you should expect a longer transit for your goods to make it over the sea & through customs. Most popular choice for moving to the UK.
Moving Company Packs
Gives you more time to attend to other moving tasks. Better insurance and more experienced packing, but comes at a high cost.
Self Packing (DIY)
Take your time packing your valuables. Know that your household goods are packed safely as you do it yourself. A huge money saver for many moving to the UK.
