    Hello moving doctor,

I am looking to move a automotive mechanics tool box from northern Greece to Toronto, Canada. I dont necessarily need the tool box but just its contents. I’m thinking something like a wooden crate where i could throw everything inside. Also, what about a big 55 gallon drum where i could throw everything inside? This would probably be the strongest option. The tools probably weigh in total a ton….maybe two.
Any advice on this, am i on the right track? What is your estimation on price?

    Greetings,
I need to move about 20 boxes medium size (18″ x 18″ x 16″ each) of 10 Kg each from Los Angeles to Cadiz, Spain, the closest port. My home is about 30 min by road from Cadiz (Vejer de la Frontera, zip code 11150) and I would like delivery to my door if not too expensive.
I don’t mind slow(est) shippment and ideally, if not adding too much to the cost, put on pallet and shrink wrapped, if possible.
Kindly let me know if you (your company?) could provide me a quote?
    Thank you, best regards.

I am moving back to California after many years in the UK – I only have a few things I am going to take with me – mostly clothes, books and documents – and a few of my treasured collectables. I haven’t packed my things for shipping yet- most still in storage, so I don’t know how heavy the items will be. Many of the shipping companies want to know size and weight of items before I get a quote, but I won’t know this until I have the crates to pack. How do I go about finding the best company to do this?

    Thank you

Hello Ahmet if you want to store your container when you get to Spain then yes it is a good idea to purchase your own one. You must make sure it has the shipping approval license on it though otherwise the ships will not carry it for you. This company can help you with this. http://www.bluelinecontainers.com We could then ship it for you through to your door, price will be about $4500-$5000 We can give you an exact amount once we find out the actual zip codes, cheers The Moving Dr

What are your thoughts ? and what is an estimate price ?

Hello Moving Doctor- The family is moving back to the US from the Caribbean. Getting a 20 ft container with personal items shiiped to the port of Los Angeles, but the delivery service to Phoenix is an extra $3100. I have thought to have it delivered to the closest U haul pods in LA, then strip the container and pack the pods. Then have it trucked to Phoenix. My question is would it be cheaper to have it delivered to the nearest U haul location as a destination service or should I have it terminate at the port of los angeles and then hire someone to have it delivered to the UHaul location in LA.
    According to the quote –

    Destination Service Includes:
Normal Custom clearance, pick up from POE, delivery to residence, unload, unwrap,
placement of furniture, unpack carrier packed boxes (items placed on flat surface) debris removal (same day) . Normal easy furniture set up. ( Some of this not needed as I am putting into storage in phoenix)

    Destination Service Excludes:

Port charges, terminal handling approx.(20′- $450.00-$550.00 or 40′- $600.00-$650.00) no
duties/taxes on items owned for one year. X-Ray approx. $185.00, custom inspection fees, if any, extra stops, bulky items such as safes, Jacuzzi, piano etc., hoisting, re-assembly of new or special furniture such as shranks, wall units etc., storage and handling fees, stair or elevator carry, long carry, shuttle service, tolls, demurrage, per diem. These charges are C.O.D. to customer unless stated otherwise in letter of instruction.

    Just looking for some guidance-

    Thanks

Posted at 15:49h, 29 July Reply

Hi Robert, yes that container needs to be trucked from LA so its expensive. You can probably get $1000 off this rate though if you ask them to just clear container and truck to residence and you will unload it all yourself (with a little help from your friends) Other costs savings would be if you rented a U Haul in LA and unloaded the container outside the port somewhere say like a Walmart parking lot and drive your U Haul back to Phoenix yourself. That would probably save you $2500. The destination exclusions are all legit and correct. Call or email me if you would like further guidance, cheers The Moving Dr move@upakweship.com

    Hi,

I’m moving from Toronto to Ireland and I want to ship my clothes and other bits home. I imagine it will weigh in around 60 kilos – possibly more. I have no idea where to start looking for companies and rates etc. I want to do this as cheaply as possible and I don’t mind if it takes 3 months to get there. I do not require that the boxes be produced at a particular address either – I can collect them from the airport/dock in Dublin if this is a more cost friendly way of doing it. I would be most grateful for any assistance you can provide.

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 19:34h, 26 July Reply

Hello Eire, if your things are only about 60 kilos I would put in 102 suitcases and take them with you as excess baggage. The alternative would be the post office or try UPS or DHL. I don’t think shipping companies like us will get competitive until we have about 150 kilos or about 4 -5 boxes or suitcases. Cheers The Moving Dr

I have clothes, personal items, guitars, and guitar amps in upstate NY that I need to send to Flint, North Wales, UK. How would you recommend I send these? I heard of a service who will professional package and place them on some wooden base (the thing that forklifts pick up) and ship them. (Flint is a small town near Mostyn.) DHL is there. Also, do I need to itemize each individual item on a document for customs? If this is all used personal, is there any customs charge?

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 21:05h, 24 July Reply

Hello Wild Rumpus, I suggest one of our U Boxes. Its a cardboard crate holding 50 cubic feet which you can load up with all your bits and pieces and when your ready we will collect it and ship it through to your residence in North Wales. Its all inclusive and the price for a U Box to Wales is $1172.00
Yes you will need to do a packing list like Box 1 Books, Box 2 Clothes #3 Guitar and complete a customs form which we would email to you. If your moving your residence from USA to UK and all items are more than 6 months old and you have lived in USA for past 12 months then no duties or taxes will be charged by customs. Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Dr

    1 dresser
1 kitchen table with 4 chairs
    1 sofa
    1 loveseat
    2 end tables
    1 large flat screen TV
1 small flat screen 32 inch

I do not have any boxes

The furniture in new and I would like to keep it.

Hello Adel, unfortunately I can not help on this one as I don’t have any contacts there I’m afraid. I think Allied Pickfords and AGS and may be Crown WW all have offices there though that might be able to assist. Cheers The Moving Dr

    Hi Mark,

my boyfriend is moving from France back to South Africa. He mostly has clothing and personal effects such as dvds, xbox, books and some glasses to move. What is the best way for him to send/bring them back? I was thinking of going over to help if he were to take everything as luggage by plane (and help pack) – would that be best?

    Thanks

Hello Bee, if its just one or 2 suitcases full them paying some extra and taking the suitcases with you is probably the easiest fastest and cheapest method, if however its more like 5 suitcases full for example we could ship it for you. Our email address in France is paris@the-eurogroup.com Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Dr

How much is it to ship a bag 50lbs from Tampa fl to Brisbane Australia? I am trying to decide if it is cheaper to ship, pay extra for extra baggage with my flights or get some kind of cargo/freight on a ship?

    Any ideas??

I am basing it on 50lbs because that is weight cut off with airlines so I am trying to compare to that. I have a small room of things basically. I don’t have to bring any furniture. But if something like cargo/freight on a ship is cheaper to do it all then ill go that route even if it takes a while to receive.

    Thanks for your time.

Hello Sonja, one bag will certainly be cheaper to pay the extra and take with you than ship it cargo but if you have say at least 4 or 5 boxes full then our prices would probably start to be cheaper. I am going to be emailing you some prices so you can compare, cheers The Moving Dr

I am looking for a company to drop off a 20ft container in the North west whilst we load our plastic pallets and then ship it to Toronto via Montreal. I have also noticed some companies wont accept credit cards but this is my preferred method of payment asit offers me some protection.
Thank you in advance for your help?

North west meaning UK or USA? If UK we can help you on this and accept credit cards for an additional charge. We would need you loading zip or post code though please. Cheers The Moving Dr

    Hi Mark,
I used your services quite a few years ago – a whole container from Minnesota to Sweden. Now I live in Spain. Some friends of ours are moving from Madrid to Newcastle, AUSTRALIA. They are looking for a company here to handle the move. I gave him your name but he said he thinks you only handle cases originating from USA. Is this true? Or maybe you could recommend someone else from your network in case you don´t handle origination from MAdrid? It´s also good for me to know in case I move again. I can tell you that driving a truck across Europe last summer was not my idea of super fun…

    All the best,

Thanks for thinking of us again and spreading the word! Thanks Mark

    Hello,

I have a friend from USA who now lives in London (permanently). He need to move his belongings from USA (Oregon) to London.

There should not be any import taxes because these are all just personal items he has owned for some time.

On his behalf, I wanted to get an idea of an economical way for him to ship these things.

I do not have specifics on the size and weight of packages yet, but there will be a couple big steamer trunks and other boxes.

He does not care much now long they take to arrive; they could go by boat if safe.

He is also likely to be interested in having the shipping company pack the items appropriately to make sure they arrive safely.

Can you give me any information about this?

    Thank you,
    Derk Wehler

    Hi

I am looking to move from TX to the UK. I am not taking furniture and am trying to estimate the cheapest way to get my belongings over, have books and heavy items. I am also working on a tight deadline. I don’t need the items in the UK ASAP but i’m on a 10 day countdown to leaving TX so I have lots to get organized.
    What options do I have?

    Thanks

Hello Claire, well you have 10 days to pack everything into boxes and drop off at one of our terminals in Texas or we can collect. I have emailed you some prices and options, we are great at doing last minute moves and charge the same prices so we don’t take advantage of your predicament! Let me know how the email looks and if any questions, hope we can help, cheers The Moving Dr

    Hi Mark,
    My husband and I are relocating from Montpellier (FR) to Sydney (AU). We want to relocate a reasonable amount of household furniture, personal items and a car (Maxda 3) in a container. Our questions are;
    1. Are we able to pack the car full of items?
    2. What are the cheapest relocation companies that work from our area in France to Australia?
    Thankyou,
    Nardia

You can cover the seats in the car and fill up the boot / trunk but don’t cover drivers seat or into the window line. I am passing this over to our contact in your area that can help you direct. Her name is Jennifer and works for European Relocation, cheers The Moving Dr

My daughter is moving from Dusseldorf, Germany to Chicago, IL. She is not moving furniture but breakable items like dishes, books and clothes. What is the most economical way to do this? Would she pack the breakables herself? Thanks for your help.

Posted at 16:55h, 18 July Reply

Hello Marguerit, if she can pack everything well into moving boxes we can then collect and ship through to your door in Chicago or you could collect at our Chicago terminal. The best way to pack breakables is place something soft like a pillow at the bottom of the box, wrap breakables in paper and bubble wrap and fill up the box. Plates and glasses should always be placed end up and not on their side or flat. At the top of the box put in a cushion / pillow, bubble wrap or crushed up paper so the box is full and tight. You can purchase “dish packs” which are moving boxes that are thicker and stronger than a normal moving box for glass and china. One of our reps will be in touch to give you some prices and service options, cheers The Moving Dr

Hello Gerry, the U Boxes get sent out flat packed from Charleston SC by UPS ground service so it takes about a week to CA. We will email you the tracking link for it too so you will see the eta of the box to you. If you need a faster service we can always put on UPS expedited services for an extra fee, typically a 3 day service is about an extra $75 Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Dr

Hi Gerry, a normal bike should fit in a U Box or obviously any of the bigger boxes. You can normally get a bike box free from a bike store and pack it into the bike box and then put the bike box in the u box or U crate. Cheers The Moving Dr
