    Hi Mark
I would like to send a sofa from England to Sweden.
Any suggestions and/or recommendations who might be able to do that for me?
    Thanks

Hmmm that’s going to be expensive as you will need to find a moving company or furniture delivery company to move it for you. I would Google part loads from the town you are in in England, to Sweden and see what companies come up in the search. Try Edmunds who are a furniture delivery company running to and from Sweden and England. Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Dr

    Hi Moving Doc,
I’m relocating to Bristol UK, from Maryland. I’m planning on moving mostly boxable items ie, kitchen, memorabilia, books ,tools of trade, CD/DVD. But I do have a few odd size pieces . A 12′ work platform, and a few pieces of furniture. Can you give advice on best means of moving ? Trying to find storage facility in Bristol for pending shipment.

Hello James, I once moved from Columbia MD back to England but ended up back in the USA 6 months later again 🙂 Well all of our part load crates and U Boxes wont work because of the 12 foot work top so I am thinking a self load 20 foot container might be the answer. You wont have enough to fill it but its a lump sum price door to door whatever you load into it and will keep all your things safely together. Its going to be about $3700 depending on origin town. If this sounds too much, I would think about leaving the 12 foot platform behind and taking just the smaller stuff and using a U Box! Email me move@upakweship.com if you need a 20 ft self load container quote, cheers The Moving Dr

We a planning a move back to uk some ways in the future -always good to plan! We have decide to use your services but…
Reading all your advise and tips I still have question about furniture do and things such as rugs, step ladders etc.
Do we box all these although you mention wrapping bikes. And if not boxed in which location of the container should things like chairs go?
Look forward to hearing you suggestions

Hello Leonard, thanks for the message, good questions but I really nee to know what service you are thinking of using to be able to answer you properly. For example a self load 20 foot container needs less protection on your items as it travels door to door compared with some on the smaller options that get consolidated and therefore get more handling in and out of warehouses and on and off trucks. May be you could call me to discuss and then I can advise, Thanks Mark

    Hi Moving Dr.,

Relocating a family of five (5) to Auckland New Zealand December of this year. We’re looking at personal household effects and furniture, and since electronics can’t be brought over, no white goods, etc.. Looks like we’d be requiring a 30 ft container. Port of departure is NY, NY but uplift is farther upstate. On a tight budget, but really would need full service – yeah, I know you’re not a magician 🙂

Would be most grateful for tips, quotes and advice via email. Thank you!

Hi Chris, I suggest a self load 20 foot shipping container for you. We can bring it to your home, you load everything up and we will ship it through to your address in Auckland and deliver it to your new residence there. A 20 ft container is about the size of a single garage and by packing and loading yourself you will save about $3,000 on your relocation compared with using a mover who will do that for you! If you would like us to work out a quote for you please email us your loading zip code, cheers The Moving Dc, move@upakweship.com

I may need to ship 200 books to Bahrain for a speaking engagement. I believe the publisher would send them in boxes of 24 that are about 1 cubic foot in size each, so 8 boxes. Each box probably would weight 15-20lbs. So about 120-160lbs total.

What is the best way to ship and rough estimate of cost and duration?

I am costing up the possibility of shipping 4 pre war cars to South Africa, from the UK, in September next year (2014) for a rally in South Africa and then shipping them back to the UK.
By making a special frame in a 30ft Container we could get the four cars in a 30 ft container (they are soft top and the windscreen can be lowered.
The question is therefore what would be the approximate cost of shipping this 30ft container from any suitable UK port to Cape Town and bringing them back about a month later

The 100 Kg shipment will make 2 large boxes containing clothes, bags and some new, unopened fragrances.
What is the estimated cost? I don’t mind going with a slow shipping if it cost less.
Could you please also estimate the cost of shipping 60 Kg instead of 100 Kg?

Hello Lynn, not sure why you would want to leave Vanuatu to return back to USA but my suggestions are if you have half a 20 ft container you might as well pay for the whole thing and load it yourself and ship it direct to MO rather than long delays and having your things in and out of warehouses and trucks by going a shared container service. Contact a local shipping agent or freight forwarder to ask for a 20 foot door to door shipping quote with you loading and unloading everything to save money! Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Dr

    Hi Mark

I am thinking about returning to Australia (Canberra) from Japan (Tokyo) within the next 6-12 months and am interested in getting a general idea of how much it would cost to move my household effects door to door, including assistance with boxing up/packing items here in Tokyo.

I do not know if I have more than 15 cubic meters of stuff and therefore whether I need my own 20 ft container or whether I should go LCL.

There would only be three pieces of furniture to move (2 Japanese antique chests and an antique Chinese sideboard), but I have a 1 metre wide floor to ceiling bookcase full of books, around 100 CDs, 90 DVDs, and 60 video cassettes, along with 4-5 boxes of magazines, a lot of Tupperware, a small amount of crockery, cutlery and glassware, a number of Japanese art items (wedding kimono, porcelain doll in glass case, lacquerware, ceramics including two large vases and other assorted item). In addition, I probably have around 90 pairs of shoes in their boxes, a number of handbags and maybe between 10-20 boxes worth of clothes (this is a very rough estimate).

I am wondering if you can give me an estimate of whether all of this could be shipped sharing a container or whether I would need a whole container and in each case, how much that would cost.

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 18:24h, 19 August Reply

Hi Catherine, as you already know or about to find out, moving out of Japan is expensive!! As you have half a 20 foot container I would think you are on the cusp of either going in a 20 foot on your own or go via a shared container service. If there isn’t much difference go with the 20 foot yourself as it will be quicker and safer as it will have less handling in and out of warehouses that the shared container service. We don’t have a service from there but there are a few good companies down there. I would get 3-4 quotes, on the low end will be Economove and Phoenix but also try Crown, Santa Fe and Asian Tigers all on Google. Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Doc

    Hi There,

We are moving from Vancouver to Melbourne & have not had much luck finding a service that will sea freight 2-3 moving boxes. Realistically, these will just be books and clothes as well as some household/camping things. There is no hurry for the items to get there.
So far, we have found that any companies offering groupage dictate a minimum of around $300 worth of shipping space then the associated fees are added after that.
My question is, is it possible to simply send a couple of boxes and pay for the space you take up (even if it means waiting longer for the container to be filled) or is this simply not done?

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

    Kind Regards,

    Peter Davis.

Posted at 18:27h, 19 August Reply

Hi Peter, we can give you a price but being that small its hard to be cost effective. You might as well take some more for the same price or try and fit in an extra suitcase and take with you! Other options are post office of may be a dhl / ups service. The $300 price you got would be based on paying for the space you take up and holding it longer would not reduce the price I’m afraid. Hello Elizabeth, I think by the time you read this you should already have a quote from us for a door to door U Box. Its a much safer and faster way of shipping but bear in mind it wont be big enough for your love seat. Cheers The Moving Dr

    Hi there,

I am planning to move to New York (from Brussels) next year (sept 2014). I have 3 tables, 6 chairs, 2 book shelfs (one big and one small), 1 sofa, 1 deck chair, 2 carpets, 1 king-size bed (with mattress), a washing machine, and around 6 boxes of 100x100x100 cm with kitchen ware and other stuff. Is that possible to transport and if so, what would be the price for it (approximately).

    Thanks.

Hello Serkan, its a bit early to give you an exact price but a self load 20 foot container door to door where you could load all your boxes and furniture items in will be about $3,800.00 Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Dr

Hello Dan, our rate above is based on self load self unload service with us doing everything in between. We have passed this on to our sister company EuroUSA Shipping who will be quoting you for full services including packing and loading and unloading and unpacking in Oxford. This will probably increase the price by about $3,000. Cheers The Moving Dr

    Hi Mark

I will potentially be relocating from HK to Toronto and would like to start budgeting for the relocation. My move would consist of your typical household items such as clothing, kitchen and dining wares, and some furniture with the biggest items limited to a dining table and chairs, queen size mattress and a couch.

Appreciate if you can help me with estimations for such a move.

    Thanks

    Paul

Hello Paul, we don’t have a service from Hong Kong ourselves but have dealt with Baltrans and Metta Movers in the past that have both given us good service. You should find them if you Google their name in HK, hope that helps, Cheers The Moving Dr

We are moving from Cape Town, South Africa to Nashua, NH, USA with about 300 cubic feet worth of belongings. Please advise us of the most cost-effective way to ship our belongings. We work for non-profit organisations and therefore have a very modest relocation assistance budget.
    Thank you!

Hello Sindisco, well 300 cubic feet on this route is not going to be budget friendly I’m afraid but I’ll pass this on to my colleague Chris to work out some prices for you, cheers The Moving Dr

    Hello,

I am currently interviewing for a position in New Zealand and happen to be starting the process of gathering information about a potential international move. Can you please provide some insight as to the costs associated with shipping from Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA to Palmerston North, New Zealand.

I do not yet have an estimated number of boxes/cartons. But some of the larger items would include: a queen size bed/mattress, dresser, bed side table, crib/mattress, two sliding rocker/ottoman, dresser, sofa , entertainment center, desk and shelf. Additionally, there would be kitchen items, computer, TV, toys, bike, clothes, mirrors, etc…

What is the safest, easiest, least stressful, and most efficient and economical way to ship my belongings that you would advise?

Thank you so much for your help.
    K.
