    Hi!

I’m moving 2 Lift Vans (Estimated net shipment weight of 4200lbs, 600 cuft max) from San Francisco to Zurich and the company quoted me $9,500 (excluding insurance).

The estimate includes full packing, wrapping, shipping, delivery, unpacking, un-wrapping and hauling away debris on day of delivery .

Does this sound reasonable? It’s more than I expected.

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 13:54h, 17 September Reply

Hello Johan, working on some rough numbers our door to door price would be $14 / cu ft so that times 600 would equal $8400 so its a little pricey. Also bear in mind 2 lift vans should only be 400 cubic feet so our rate times 400 would only equal $5600
600 cubic feet would equal 3 lift vans as they are about 200 cubic feet each. I would definitely go out and get at least 3 quotes from reputable movers. Apart from us try Allied Van Lines, Unigroup or Atlas for good services and comparative pricing. Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Dr

    Hi,
I am looking to move from the USA to the UK and will have roughly 30 cubic feets worth of belongings – can these be packed in any size boxes?
Is there any insurance coverage with the basic cost of the shipping?
    Thanks.

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 18:19h, 16 September Reply

Hello Charlotte, yes you can pack in any size boxes but I suggest packing in medium boxes so they are easy to handle and try and keep all boxes the same size so they stack nicely together. If you drop off at one of our 88 terminals and we ship to your door in England our all inclusive price is $654.00 There is no insurance in this price but you can get it through us for 2% of the value so eg if you insured it for $5000 it would cost you $100 in premium. More info is available here https://www.upakweship.com/insurance.php Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Dr

I know from searching eBay that int’l guitar shipping is usually around $150, but searching on-line for quotes, I can get nowhere near these rates! Also, can you advise about insuring pkg., and what if any taxes or tariffs might rear their heads? Thanks

Hello Richard, guitars need to be in hard cases and I would look at getting a rate on either DHL, UPD or FedEx for the best rates on something that small. You will be able to insure through them and declare the guitars as a gift with a low value like $50 and you should be fine or pay a minimal amount of tax on them, Cheers The Moving Dr

Hi, Mark. We need to ship a few boxes (4 or 5, maximum 10 kg per box) from D.C. to London for our son who is going to University there. The boxes have used household/kitchen items, a couple of used electronics (small turntable, speakers), some vinyl records, and some used clothes. No particular rush for the delivery. Would be grateful for your advice on how best to ship economically (and what company) and how to avoid duty fees on the UK side if possible. Thanks.

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 17:07h, 11 September Reply

Hello Nicholas, our baggage service for a few boxes are the most economical. You could drop the packed boxes off at our terminal out near Dulles airport and we would ship them over to our office in England, clear customs and deliver to him in London. Transit will be 5-6 weeks to door. If your son has moved to UK in the last 6 months and declares he has lived in USA for last 12 months and all his items are more than 6 months old its all duty and tax free. (no booze or tobacco products though) I’ll email you some prices and also pass on to our air division to see what they can come up with for you, cheers Mark

I’m moving from Greater LA area to Frankfurt, Germany and the size will be about 50cf.
    1. How many weeks would it take for boxes to be delivered (regular boxes or U-box)?
    2. How much it would cost additionally if the destination is located on the 2nd floor, 3rd floor (both could come with elevators) or high floors with elevators? Currently it’s in process of finding an apartment and I would like to know estimated cost.

    Thank you,

      Hello Aki
      1. Transit time west coast to Europe is about 8-10 weeks
      2. Baggage and U Boxes are delivery to curbside / driveway on a pallet. If you want inside delivery service then our shared container includes delivery up to second floor. Additional floors depending on the building could cost an additional $150-$250
Hope that helps cheers The Moving Dr

    Hi Mark,
I already received a quote for a full container (20ft) shipment from Rockville MD to Maastricht, The Netherlands. We have a temporary furnished place where we will stay for the first weeks (hopefully not longer than the time it takes for the shipment to arrive), but would it be possible to have you store our belongings for a couple of weeks if it takes us a little longer to find an apartment? If so, would you be able to provide a cost estimate?
    Thanks!

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 16:48h, 11 September Reply

Hello Marjin, storing in the shipping containers can get pricey after a few days as the containers belong to the shipping line and they want them back asap to re load and send them off somewhere else on their ships! The first few days will be about $75 per day storage but as you can imagine this isn’t a long term solution! If you don’t have anything to move into after container is ready for delivery to you, it might be best if you unload it into a self storage place to save you the money. Hopefully you will find a place quickly when you get there and avoid having to unload it somewhere and move it into your place later. Cheers Mark

Hello Keith, we manufacture the U Crates here in Charleston SC and send out to the terminals once someone books them so they are only available to see in advance in Charleston. So what I suggest is getting a measuring tape and blue masking tape / painters tape and mark out the dimensions of the crates on your floor and wall to get a visual of the size and see if everything you have will fit into your “imaginary” crate. Hope that works for you, cheers Mark. ps dims are as follows 100 U Crateis 86x48x42 inches high. The 150 U Crate has a hinged door at the end for easy loading. Dims are 86x48x62.9

    Hi Mark,
Thank you for the assistance! I am interested in a self load shipping container to be shipped from Phoenix, Arizona, USA to Copenhagen, Denmark. A friend of mine used U Pack We Ship and recommended it. I clicked on the Denmark information page here on your site and I wanted to ask you about fees. My family and I moved to Denmark 3 years ago and only brought what we could bring on the airplane. We moved into furnished apartments and have gathered stuff over time. We have greencards so we have been a little wary to ship our stuff over and weren’t truly sure we wanted to stay in Copenhagen. Now we are sure. We love it here and want to ship our stuff over. It has all been sitting in storage for 3 years. On your information page it reads: “Owner must be registered as a resident with the Danish authorities (Folkeregister) prior to
Customs clearance and the goods must be imported within 12 months of the owner’s arrival.” Are we able to ship our items after waiting this long? Will we have to pay a large fee to do so? I had not heard of anything like this and it concerns me!
    Thanks,
    Sharon

Hello Sharon, that’s a very good question that I’m not sure of the answer!! I am asking Stephanie in our office that handles the self load containers to check with our Danish agent to see what they say and then come back to you, cheers The Moving Dr

    Hi Mark,
I want to get an idea of what it would cost to ship a full container of furniture from San Francisco to Paris. Also, what would be the front and back end expenses. I live about 50 miles from San Francisco, so I don’t know if the container would come to me to fill and then go to San Francisco and then on the other end getting from port to Paris apartment, what is involved and how much could it cost.
    Thanks so much
    Jessica

    Hi,
I’ll be moving from London To Jersey (Channel Islands) soon and would like to know how much it is likely to cost me to ship over items such as two single beds, 40 inch TV, DVD player, games consoles, possibly condenser tumble dryer and a few other boxes?

    Thanks and regards

    Hi Mark,

I’ll be moving from Atlanta, GA to Berlin next month and have already received a quote on moving with the U-Box, but I also wondered if you have a policy on holding a shipment for an additional fee. Since I’ll be staying in a transitional furnished apartment for a month while I look for a permanent residence, it would be better if I were able to ship my things directly to the permanent address instead of having to move them again soon thereafter.

    Best Regards,
    Natasha

Yes absolutely, if needed we can store for you at our customs bonded terminal in England for $25/week until your ready for it. Its better for us to ship it over to Europe and clear customs and have it ready for you over there so when you find a place it can be delivered to you in a few days. Cheers The Moving Dr

I have about 4 boxes that i need to send from South Africa, Johannesburg, to Taoyuan, Taiwan. i dont know the exact size, but its about 1m x 60cm x 60cm. Its a combination of a few fragile things but i can pack those well, and then quite a few books.

I dont need it urgently but 3 months is quite long to wait!

    Any advice would be great.

Have you ever worked in Mexico? (Or know of someone reliable who does?) We are looking at moving household items (no furniture) from Tulsa, OK to Oaxaca, Mexico and are investigating the cheapest option.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Doc,
I am planning a move from central Iowa, USA to St. George, Grenada this December. I don’t have big furniture or large appliances such as refrigerator or bed or sofa. The largest is my Casio digital piano and a 6′-tall cat tree. I have three LCD monitors, a PC tower and few small appliances such as gaming consoles. The rest are boxes from size 12″x18″x12″ to 40Gal, containing books, clothes, cooking utensils, and miscellaneous household items. I can pack/unpack and load/unload them up/off a, um, shipping cargo (?). Can you advice me which service from your company should I use?
In addition, if possible, I would like the transit time not to exceed 2-3 weeks as items such as the PC tower and monitors are the major means of communication between me and my family once I am in Grenada.
    Thanks,
    Virginia

    Good Morning,

I have a storage unit in Breda, Holland that I would like to ship to Clonmel, Ireland. Everything is in boxes or bags and there are a few pieces of furniture. The items are books, CD’s, household items and a few pieces of furniture. I do have the demensions of the storage unit but not with me this morning (of course). I need to find a truck that can meet me at the storage facility with a truck and I need the storage items taken to Clonmel, Ireland to my house. How much would it cost to have those items moved from Holland to Ireland? I am looking to move the storage items around the end of October. Is this possible inexpensively?
Thank you for you time and I look forward to hearing from you.
    Kind regards.

We are planning to move our life of 25 years here in Spain (Nerja, Málaga) back to Tucson Arizona. So many of the companies we encounter only give quotes from the US or UK to other places, not reverse. We will mostly be moving art, musical instruments and equipment, book, and sentimental bits and pieces but no furniture and no kitchen stuff. Can you give us an idea of how to start? Thanks so much, Judy

My daughter is getting married in February in Sydney and I want to send a wedding dress and accessories out to her . Courier services seem very expensive and I do not need to get it to her by express delivery.
As I have other items I would like to send I wonder how much it would cost to send a box out and how secure it would be for such precious items. Or should I just bite the bullet and send it by courier for safety?
    Many thanks
