I’m planning a move from Los Angeles, USA to Melbourne, Australia. After checking a few options on your website I find the best option for me is the door-to-door baggage service 1-30 cubic ft as I don’t have any furniture or big items. However I want to ask about bringing my digital piano. Its full size, without packing, is about 51x14x5 inch, and weight 47lb. After packing I imagine it would be bulkier and heavier, so would it still fit within the limit for the baggage service (50lb and 5 cubic ft) ? Or what should I use alternatively?

    Thanks.

Posted at 16:47h, 30 September Reply

Hello Chau, we load baggage and shared container shipments on pallets with dimensions of 48×40 inches therefore the only way your piano will fit will be on end making your pallet volume 48x40x51 inches which = 56.6 cubic feet so because of this it will have to go in the 51-100 cubic foot range which is our shared container service. Sorry! The Moving Dr

Hi. I am moving from London to New York and want to ship 4-5 boxes medium size. I also want to ship a jeep diesel. It is left hand drive. Can I put the boxes in the car and can you take it through customs. Please let me know costs. I’m very flexible with timing.

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 16:49h, 30 September Reply

Hello Erion, the car needs to either be up to US Specs, be originally from the US or be over 25 years old in order to get through Customs here. If the answers are yes then you can ship in a container with the boxes in it or if you choose a roll on roll off service then nothing is allowed in the car. Cheers The Moving Dr

Hello Amanda, yes you could do this. We would only charge you an additional $300 to cover the extra paperwork and Customs procedures needed for a vehicle. You are allowed to put things up to window level in the car as well. Not on the driving seat though obviously lol You can see our How to load a car presentation by clicking here

    Wow,
Have to say first that your website it incredible – very well designed. I need to arrange shipment of a very old large wooden chest. Going from Aquilonia Italy (AV province, 2 hrs east of Naples) to Oakland or San Francisco CA. My grandmother is almost 101 and wants to send this to me. My mother is going there soon for a visit and wants to take care of it then. Would like full service from Italy (goes to Grandmother’s house and picks up/packs for her) – I’m close to both ports so easy for me when it gets to US. Plus I’m not 100! Asking my Italian friends here but not getting anywhere. Online info overwhelming. Super professional more important than cost. Want to make my grandmother happy before she dies. Thanks!

We need to send personal items (clothes, books…) from CA, USA to Dublin, Ireland – not much, probably one archive box.

We’ll also be sending Christmas gifts, mostly kids’ clothes.

What’s the best way to do this, and will there be a problem with tax on the gifts?

    Thanks

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 15:09h, 25 September Reply

Hello Karen, yes there will be taxes on any gifts. If it isn’t very big then I suggest using the post office or our Air Division can also quote you. You will have to note value of any gifts and the consignee (person its going to) will be charged the taxes and duty. Duty can be 3-5% of normal stuff plus you have 20% VAT. This is charged on the cost of the goods plus the cost of shipping and the cost of insurance which is known as the C.I.F value. I’ll pass this on to Ken to quote you an Airfreight price, cheers The Moving Dr

Hello Wang we do not ship food stuffs as we are not up to date with the regulations, we ship mainly peoples belongings, I would try one of the large cargo shippers like CH Robinson, Panalpina or DFS Worldwide for quotes, cheers The Moving Dr

    Ciao!

I was wondering how much it would cost for my mom to send me a box of winter clothes from Chicago to Prague. I have a feeling that it will be heavy since I have a lot of boots…heavey jackets…and all that jazz. I would also be okay with the 21 day cargo service. I don’t need it right away. Please let me know. Thank you!

    It is in a box that is sized 120cm x 71cm x 20cm and weighs 10kg.
    Thanks

Hi Luke, good last name for a Cyclist! Its going to be cheaper to ship it on the plane with you to be honest. Even though they will charge you excess baggage rate its going to be cheaper and quicker than any other means! Cheers The Moving Doc

I’d like to ship enough stuff to fit into a 20′ shipping container from Portland OR to Gold Coast, Australia. Could you give me a cost estimate for this?

Thanks Mark, how long will it take to receive a quote? I also had a question about customs. Most of the stuff I am moving is personal belongings – furniture, clothing etc, however I want to include in the container some renovation materials I bought in the US and want to use for our new house in Australia (tiles, window screens, bathtub, sink etc). Will I have to pay customs tax on this if it is included in with my other belongings? A lot of it is used as well. I also would like to purchase the shipping container from you and keep it once I’m in Australia. Is this possible and can you include it in the price? Kym

Hi Kym you should have a price hopefully by end of today, yes you will pay taxes on anything that is new but if used and its part of your household goods then you would probably be ok but would depend I think on the customs officer. You could look and the Australian Customs Web site as well and email them in advance to see what they think. Containers of HHG are not allowed past the port in Australia therefore it wouldn’t really make sense buying one here as everything would have to come out of it and them all be re loaded. Shipping an owner container normally costs a little more than a shipping line container so no savings there either I’m afraid. You would be better off buying the container for storage in Australia to be honest. Any other Country though this would make sense! Cheers The Moving Dr
