Hello Ed, best and safest way to send things would be in a 20 foot shipping container. You could load it with some friends in Corona and we will then ship it to Bangkok, clear customs and bring you the container for you to unload it. Everything in between we handle for you. Stephanie in our office is our specialist in container shipping, I’ll pass this message on to het and she will be in touch, cheers The Moving Doc

I was wondering, what is the cheapest price to move a queen size mattress and a few boxes (2-3) from Honolulu, HI to Staten Island, NY?

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 16:30h, 07 November Reply

Hello Jamie, I fear this will not be worth it but by all means call around the movers in Hawaii to see what prices you can get. We normally use Royal Hawaiian but ask some others for quotes too. I expect it will be at least $800 though and therefore probably cheaper to sell it and buy a new one when you arrive in NY! Quick question please – I’m a Brit living in Pakistan with my husband – we move back to the UK in a year or so and have that leg of the move covered BUT we travel loads to Bangkok and I wonder how difficult and costly it might be to buy some home furnishings like small sofas, side tables etc and ship them to Islamabad??!!! We’d be super grateful of some advice please!!!! I’m wedded to a sofa but would drop the rest if need be FYI!!! Massive thanks – Catherine

Posted at 16:34h, 07 November Reply

Hello Catherine, there are many furniture shippers in Bangkok but suggest you ask the furniture shop for a quote for shipping as if they want to sell you the sofa they better give you a good deal on shipping it. Lots of the furniture in Thailand gets shipped overseas so they are well aware of shipping and the prices involved. If not you could always ask the local Pickfords, Crown or Santa Fe offices for prices. Cheers The Moving Doc

    Hi Moving Doctor
I am moving from NYC back to my home in the UK (Not to0 far from Manchester).
I am looking for a cost effective way to send back my belongings, and trying to figure out if it is worth sending my furniture etc, cost depending.
Can you give me a few prices/ options? And also time quotations?

    Thanks!

Hi Carly, I’ll send you all our options for part loads from USA to UK. As a general tip I suggest either cutting back and just sending boxes or if your going to take some furniture you might as well take the whole lot including the kitchen sink! Shipments in between like a bunch of boxes, sofa and bed tend to be the least cost effective. Anyway I’ll send you the prices and options. Transit times are normally between 5-6 weeks for a part load or 4-5 weeks for a load your own shipping container. I will email you now, cheers The Moving Doc

I see that you’re company offers exactly what I’m looking for and you honestly are the ONLY ones that are all-inclusive. (especially taking care of customs etc on the other end).
I am looking to ship some boxes of books, etc. I think the “baggage” service is going to work sufficiently.
My only question is how long will it take for them to ship from Birmingham, AL to Frankfurt, Germany?
(just a ball park idea is fine)
    Thank you,

Unfortunately we don’t do domestic moving in Australia so cant help you or even know anyone to recommend to you I’m afraid. You could try our friends at John Ryan Removals in Melbourne though. We are moving from the uk to Dubai in a month. We have to get three quotes for shipping cost. They have given us an amount we can ship which is 550kg but the shipping companies want measurements. Which are the best companies to go with?

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 19:46h, 04 November Reply

Hi Tracy, I wonder if they are paying for air or sea freight? In Europe most allowances by ship are by volume rather than weight but good movers should be able to work with you on this. To recommend some good movers, I really need to know where about’s you are moving from as some companies might be good in London but not so well covered in Glasgow for example. In the meantime I’ll pass this over to our UK office who can contact you. Other names you might want to check are Sterling Intl, Interdean Relocation or Team, cheers The Moving Doc

    Hi Mark,
I need to move probably 40-60 tea chest boxes(50 x 50cm) of items from Brighton, UK to Auckland, New Zealand.this November. There is a sizeable amount of catering equipment in the load-mostly pots, pans, display dishes, small food processing machines, folding stainless steel tables etc. Most of the items are small and easily picked up-there are only 2 large 2 man lift catering items. Many of the catering items will be used at home.Of the remaining goods there is only one large item, a dining table in 2 parts-a 2 man lift.I am in New Zealand(since May 2013), the goods were all bought during my 17 year stay in the UK and I have receipts for all items(majority are 2nd hand, a few are new).I want as much of my goods shipped as personal rather than business-none of the items have been used by me in business, nor do I currently run a business here in New Zealand. How should I proceed? Oh! I need a shipper too. Regards, Richard

A barn or a barn full of stuff? You can load your own container and we can work out a price for you. Biggest thing will be with any farm equipment, make sure everything is pressure washed so everything is sparkly clean when it goes through the AQIS inspection upon arrival. I’ll get Stephanie to advise you on the container. Re the tractor, I suggest Google Wallenius Ireland and get their tel nbr and give them a call to get a price, cheers The Moving Doc

I am an ex South African, now a Kiwi citizen that needs to relocate back to South Africa for Family commitment reasons (elderly ailing parents on a farm on their own). I would like to have a quote on transporting a 20’ container from Havelock North, NZ to Cape Town, South Africa. It will be filled with household goods. I am wondering if it would be cheaper to buy my own container and pack it myself and you do the transport OR use your container, pack it myself and you transport it… Could you please enlighten me on all the options? I have a very limited financial budget.

Also: do you have the option of me accompanying the container ship (container cruising)? If so, what will be the costs?

    Any other hidden costs?
Also: I have a diabetic Cornish Rex cat called Cleo that is my child. She needs to be monitored every 4-6 hours and I have a problem leaving her unattended in a aeroplane’s hold on the trip from Sydney Australia to Johannesburg south Africa for 14 hours. Do you know of ANY other way to travel to South Africa where I would be able to have free access to her other than rowing my own boat to Cape Town?!?

Hello Greg. Well normally i would say go to your local bike store and ask for some bike boxes and put your bikes in the boxes but not sure that will work with a tandem! Therefore i think depending on the measrements of the tandem the 100 or 150 U crate would work best and be the safest way to ship everything. I am traveling this week so will ask Stephanie in our office to email you over the rates. You would have to bring your things to our terminal in Sterling Va and load the crate. We would then ship everything through to your house including customs clearance, port chsrges, shipping and delivery all for an all inclusive price. Cheers The Moving Doc

Hello Serge our Silver option at 2% of the value is the best we can offer. It covers you for total loss and also against a box going missing or something getting wet or damaged by an outside force like a forklift blade etc We insure through Wells Fargo so for example if you insured contents for $5,000 then premium would be $100
Policy has a $250 deductible. Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Doc

    Good day,
I have a question which I hope you can help me with please. We are currently living in Saudi Arabia and are moving back to South Africa, unfortunately a container is way too expensive to hire tomsend our goods over so we have decided to buy new furniture and applainces in SA as it will work out cheaper for us, but we want to send our personal belongings over such as clothes, carpets, books, toys, paintings and some ornaments. Which will be the cheapest way to send these items? What companies can I contact for quotes? I would really appreciate it if someone can advise me on this matter as I have never done this before. Thank you

Hello Chantal, small shipments can usually be sent quite cheaply by airfreight out of Saudi. This is because all the planes come in fully laden with food, luxury products etc but nothing much is exported so they offer cheap pricing on Airfreight in the planes belly as otherwise they leave empty. I would try your local South African Airways agent to see what they can offer you if you can pack everything into boxes yourself. If not I suggest contacting Four Winds (who I used to work for is SA) or Crown Relo or AGS
      Cheers The Moving Doc

    Hi,
I am needing to move my personal effects from Portugal to California. After looking around this site, I think a UBox might be an option or the partial shipment concept might work also. There load is mostly boxes of personal items, clothes, art and a few key pieces of furniture. What say you?
    Thanks!

    Hello!
We are wanting to relocate our family of 5 from Orange NSW Australia to a small town in south Texas. We will be selling off most of the house just wanting to send around 12-16 boxes, a cot with mattress, toy chest (the two biggest pieces) and other odds and ends. What is the best and most inexpensive way of doing this? Thanks in advance.

Hello Beverley, not sure of whom to recommend but suggest you check with any caribbean/mexican/store in your area, they will have information on who to use to ship with. They will probably sell the barrels as well.
Be prepared to pay $$$ to clear at customs in WI. Cheers The Moving Doc

I want to move to the UK from Brisbane. I want to take my car in a container and a small amount of furniture in another container. From what I read it seems 90% likely that my car and my furniture will arrive in the UK covered in mould and damaged from damp. What is your experience of this.

    Thanks

    Heather

Hello Heather, thanks for contacting us. We can certainly help you with advise as well as a quote. Personally although I am in the USA so slightly different but never heard of a car or furniture being covered in mould and damaged from the damp unles the container has had a hole in it and let water in which is a totally different story! Anyhow I’ll let Chris Smith in our UK office answer you on this subject. He will be in touch, Cheers The Moving Doc

    Hi Mark
I am looking for a UK shipping company to ship from Coleraine, Northern Ireland to Sydney, Australia?
I have inherited a small sideboard, with glass front doors. Approx W100cm x H90cm x D50cm. Wood and inlaid brass. I can send you a photo, if you send me a real email address. It is only the one item. However, my cousin, who has also inhertied items, wants to ship stuff to Colorado in the US. Any suggestions? Thanks Sara

Moving pictures from London UK to Toronto Canada. I have read some of the posts and think I need to give you more information. These are wall art and some are oil on canvass. Would prefer not to pay a fortune but realize it will cost a bit.

    Cheers

Hello Colin, Chris in our London office will be in touch with you but my initial thought is, can you take canvas out of frame, roll up the canvas, load in cardboard tube and ups or post it! Re frame at destination! Will certainly be the cheapest way! Cheers The Moving Doc

    Whats up Doc?

I’m a young man moving from Glasgow, Scotland to Vancouver. I’ve decided to sell most of my large assets off before the move, but there are some smaller items which are closer to my heart and I really don’t want to part with.
My question for you is; what would be the most economical way for me to ship a collection of music instruments, additional suitcases full of clothing, an iMac desktop computer, some vinyl records and some books?
I’d really appreciate it very much if you could help me out with this!

    Thank you,
    William

Hello William, cheapest way will be to pack everything well into good strong moving boxes and we can collect and ship over to you in Vancouver. As you suggest I would get rid of all your large items and just ship your small personal momentos and bits & pieces. Chris from our UK office will be in touch, cheers The Moving Doc
