Posted at 08:47h, 15 NovemberHi!
I’m looking to ship a chair from Bangkok to London (air or sea, timescale is not important). what kind of prices would I be looking at?
Thanks!
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 17:44h, 15 NovemberHello Eve, I would suggest asking the shop you are buying it from who they suggest to ship it or ask them for a quote. There are a lot of furniture shippers in Thailand so you should be able to get a good price by shopping around. Make sure you get an all inclusive price or at least make sure customs clearance, port charges and THC are included in England so its free for you to collect or have it delivered. If this is a new purchase you will have to pay duties and taxes which will be about 30-35% of the C.I.F value (Costs of chair plus Insurance and Freight costs. Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 21:48h, 12 NovemberHi, Mark –
Hope you can help! My partner is moving to South Africa from Westchester County NY and needs to get several books and files there.
He has about 30 boxes of books and about 50 linear feet of files. We’re thinking about shipping a couple of boxes (3-5)of urgently needed files and books – – and follow with the rest later (or scan the bulk of the files if shipping is prohibitive.)
Is that the right way to go…or should we just ship the lot via container?
Laura

Posted at 22:05h, 12 NovemberHi Laura, I’ll get our guys to quote you a small amount by air and a larger amount by sea. Obviously if you could hand carry the books with you and save on the air part that would be a cost effective way but if not yes we can airfreight a small amount for you. Chris and Ken will be in touch, cheers The Moving Doc

The Moving Doctor
Posted at 22:08h, 12 NovemberHello Carey, our terminal to terminal Cheap Ship service would be the most cost effective. You could drop off at New Orleans and collect at the Dubai terminal. You would have to get someone in Dubai to clear customs for you though and pay the local port fees but I’m sure your employer will have a customs broker they use. Will get our Mid East desk to contact you and give you a rate, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 05:27h, 12 NovemberHi there,
I’m currently trying trying to decide about selling my house and moving to Adelaide from gisborne in New Zealand.
I have a 2 bedroom unit, and have a massive library of books, I also have just brought a lot of my furniture new, so it’s seems silly to sell it for nothing. How much would it cost for a container, or a 1/2 container to be shipped from nz to Adelaide. I’m thinking I could condense things down if there was a massive price difference
I know it’s impossible to tell me close costs but a ball park figure would be smith appreciated
Kind regards kerry

Posted at 16:38h, 11 NovemberHi,
At the end of November my wife and I will be relocating from Tokyo to Nice. We are planning to do a fairly minimal move (no furniture except 1 mattress) but will still have 15-20 boxes of clothes, etc. The part that is causing problems for me is this: I don’t have an address to ship things to.
We’ll be staying in a hotel for the first month as we search for an apartment, but the hotel doesn’t have storage space. Shipping to the office doesn’t seem like a good solution.
Is there a way to have the boxes stored at an airport warehouse until we have a final address for them? Is it possible to change the destination address if we send them via a shipping method that takes 4-6 weeks?
Thanks for any help you can provide!
-Thomas
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 19:33h, 11 NovemberHi Thomas, you don’t need the actual shipping address in advance. We have customers nearly every day that are moving across to Europe and wont know where they will be staying until they get there and find a place to live! You just tell the shipping company you are using to ship it a door Nice. Give them your temp address of your office and once you get a new address just notify the moving company. If you still havnt found a place by the time its cleared customs in France then the local agent in Nice / Marsailles will be able to store it for you until you need it for delivery. There will be a storage costs but its not that expensive in the grand scheme of relocation costs! Cheers The Moving Doc

Just looking for some advice of shipping from Alberta. Canada to Sydney Australia. We are moving back and are looking at the most cost effective way. We are thinking a container. Take care,

Posted at 19:12h, 11 NovemberHello Erin, Pete at our Canada desk can advise better than me but as a general rule if you are shipping furniture, a 20 foot self load shipping container is the best way to go. Its good on price and a lot less handling on your furniture than a part load container that will involve you items getting loaded and unloaded onto trucks and in warehouses. Pete will email you, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 20:55h, 09 NovemberHello! I am an American living in Dublin, Ireland. I am trying to get a piano shipped from Atlanta, Georgia to Dublin. I am looking at the “by sea” options as there is no rush and I’d like to get it there at a low cost! The piano is an electric, 137 pounds, 55x34x20 inches with a seat that is 24x24x21 inches. Do you have any advice?
Thank you!
Rachelle
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 19:18h, 11 NovemberHello Rachelle, in order to get this in duty and tax free you need to be moving across in the last 6 months. If not you will be charged duties and taxes of about 30% of the cost if items plus shipping and insurance costs which is called the CIF value. I don’t think you will be able to get this shipped for much less than $700 plus the taxes I would think you could buy one there cheaper of fly over in January when flights are cheap and take it back with you as an extra piece of luggage! My 2 cents! Cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 00:21h, 08 NovemberHi Mark,
Three parter for you. 1) I’d like to know how I can best figure out what size of shipment I will have going from the US to France. I’m still using everything, but also trying to sell my house so putting it all in boxes now is not very “showy”. Any ideas? 2) Also, what happens say, if I ordered a Ubox and then ended up needing additional space? 3) And finally, are your quotes inclusive of fees such as port and customs fees?
Thanks!
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 20:48h, 08 NovemberHello Dielle, all good questions.
1/ How about using our online estimator where you would select the items you would like to move and it will calculate the volume for you. Click here to use it on our web site https://www.upackweship.com/estimator.php
2/ If you have a U Box and then have a few extra boxes you can tape on top of U Box and we will ship at the Door to Door shared container rate x the volume of the boxes. Or you could order a second U Box which would be the U Box price for 2 plus extra $50 for the extra UPS service to your residence for the 2nd box
3/ YES I believe we are the only company offering ALL INCLUSIVE of port fees and customs inspection fees.
Thanks Mark

Posted at 21:18h, 07 NovemberHi,
Moving from Altenstadt, Hessen, Germany back to Windsor, Canada.
I’d say I have roughly 50-80 ft^3 of clothing, personal effects, etc. to move. At the moment, however that is a mental estimate…
Ideally, transport would be door-to-door.
What would be the most cost-effective option you could recommend, without having to do all the logistical legwork myself? Shipping would not be time-sensitive, just as long as it gets there soon enough and safely.
Thanks!

Posted at 16:25h, 07 NovemberHi Mark,
I’m working in Turkey for the DoD, and I would like to ship my TV here. Should I ship it to my apartment here or the base APO address? I don’t know what the size restrictions are for APO, and I don’t know how safe it would be going through regular mail. Its a 70″ LCD TV. Also, what would be the best packaging for it? Or would it just be cheaper to buy one here?
Thanks,
-Zach
Zach Zeiler
Posted at 16:26h, 07 NovemberAlso, it would be shipped from CA, USA.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 16:46h, 07 NovemberHello Zach, I think you can ship it through the APO service yes? If not with the costs of new TV’s these days I suggest buying a new one or buying a used one from a fellow expat that’s leaving Turkey. Shipping will cost you over $500 so I don’t think its worth it!, cheers The Moving Doc
Andrea Fisher
Posted at 12:44h, 07 NovemberGood morning.
I am currently staying in the UK for a few months, and want to ship some not needed clothing, etc. home to South Africa as it will be too much for me to carry when I return home early next year.
I have been in touch with a shipper here who advises that – apart from their own and shipping charges, and separate (quite steep) charges for clearance in South Africa, if I am not personally there to receive the goods – which I may not be, although I am planning to send them to a family member to receive on my behalf – I will be expected to pay tax at the rate of +/- 40% on the value of the goods I am sending. This is outside my experience, and is clearly not a financially viable proposition if this is the case.
Please could you advise if there is any better – more cost effective – way to do this. The total weight of the goods will be in the region of not more than about 30 kgs, but I would prefer not to trust it to the ordinary postal service as this can be very “unreliable” in South Africa.
Please help!
