Posted at 16:24h, 06 DecemberHi Mark,
I’m looking for some advice on shipping from London UK to Dublin Ireland. I have a 42 inch tv a guitar and a music keyboard. How do I need to prepare the items to be accepted for shipping? and which company would you recommend?
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 20:53h, 09 DecemberHi John, make sure the instruments are in hard cases, and TV is in a TV box. Wrap all items first well in bubble wrap. We can give you a quote for this and our LOndon office will be in touch, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 10:21h, 06 DecemberDear Mark.
Could you help? I’m currently living in the North of Italy but in May 2014 my husband, myself and our 2 daughters will be moving back to the UK. I was thinking of hiring a 20 foot container (I think that should be big enough as a lot of our furniture is from IKEA and will “flat pack” again for the journey). I’ve been searching on Google but keep coming up with industrial shipping or shipping cars with containers!! Do you know what the average prices would be to ship a 20 foot container from Northern Italy to the South west of the UK (door to door)? Do you have any web page addresses that you could send me so that I could have a look at to get an idea of what is involved.
Kind regards
Judith

Posted at 10:58h, 05 DecemberWe’re moving back from Spain to the US. Shipping door-to-door, if we’re not back in the US before our shipment arrives, is there an option to leave it stored in the container for 2-4 weeks until we arrive at our delivery address?
Also, does upackweship have a roll-on/roll-off facility on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, as we’ll be touring on our motorcycle and will be shipping it back when we finish touring the EU? If not, anywhere in the EU you offer roll-on/roll-off for motorcycles? It’s a US spec bike registered here in Spain (only had to change one light cover for Spanish specs, and an easy light cover swap back to get it back to its original US specs). We figure that with it being a Spanish registered bike that it might be easier to ship from a Spanish port vs. dealing with another EU country when shipping it out.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 14:50h, 06 DecemberHello Michael, you can store it in our warehouse if its a part load but if it is a full container then it will need to come out of the shipping container as storage in the shipping lines containers gets very expensive like $100 / day so you are better off getting it stored in a movers warehouse or self storage place. Regarding the motor bike I will get Chris in our EU office to answer you on this and also offer you a quote for your container move. FYI bikes and cars up to US spec are normally only ones that were originally from the USA. Cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 23:56h, 04 DecemberHi Mark,
Looking for a company that can pack my whole house for me and have everything shipped from Oakland, Ca to Switzerland (probably via container ship). Could you recommend a good company who can give an estimate on packing and shipping costs?
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 15:15h, 06 DecemberHello Natalie, well I suggest you get at least 3 quotes, one being from us and may be try Allied, United Van Lines or Atlas as well. We would send our local surveyor out to meet with you to see how much you have and then will give you a lump sum all inclusive price based on that amount. In the first instance I’ll get Pete to contact you to see if we can be of service and feel free to call or email us for more info, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 20:56h, 03 DecemberHi Mark, we have just moved from Qatar to Spain. We used a agent to ship our things by container. We were told that our container would be about 35 days, it has now been over 50 days. So we starting investigating and have out that the container has been in Barcelona since 10 November 2013. We have been contacting the agent to find out what happens next and we are getting no joy. We thought that we paid for door to door. What can we do to get this resolved and get the container released and delivered to our address?
Thanks
Lynn Scotr
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 15:46h, 04 DecemberHello Lynn, Hmmm this doesn’t sound good. Check your contract to see if it says to door or to port or to terminal. You need to get it cleared customs and out of the port asap as the port rent will be mounting up and if its not paid for and released soon it can go to auction. Obviously if your contract says to port or terminal you need to get a local company to customs clear it and deliver it to you but if it says to door you need to find out from the company in Qatar who they consigned it to in Spain and whom you should contact in Spain. Is the Qatar company licensed locally or member of any worldwide group like the IAM, BAR, FIDI as you can complain or ask the association for help if they are members of any?
Apart from stating the obvious and I hate to rub salt in any wounds but anyone else here reading this. It is very very important to use a licensed professional moving company. They might not be the cheapest but you have some come back if anything goes wrong. Also very important is to find out before you ship, what is covered and what is extra and make sure you have a contract saying you are covered to delivery door in new Country.
UPakWeShip for example is licensed and bonded by the Federal Maritime Commission, member of BAR and IAM. We have full contact details on our web site as well so you can always contact us and find us.
I don’t believe in slander and may be there is some mis understanding with the Qatar company but if you are not getting anywhere or lacking a response then you can always say you will blog about it and post on Qatar expat sites about your experience. That might generate a response! Good luck and feel free to call me if you need any help or advise, The Moving Doc, 001 843 225 7217

Posted at 17:23h, 01 DecemberHi Mark, I am so happy to come across your web page.
I want to ship some household items from Croghan, Boyle Co Roscommon ( 2.5 hours drive from Dublin, Ireland) to City of San Francisco, USA.
It would consist mainly of household items, ie books, about 10 large wall paintings, few end tables, 2 arm chairs, 1 5 feet chaise ( couch which is quite heavy), some lamps and 2-3 miscellaneous boxes with random ornaments etc. If I thought that the couch would encur a rather large expense I would not ship it and bring the remaining items. The items would have to be picked up in Croghan and taken to Dublin or Cork port and probably packed on a palate and all shipping customs documentation taken care of. I could box it myself, except for the larger items ( not sure how they would need to be covered?) Anyway Mark, I would appreciate your input and expertise.
Kind Regards, Carmel.

Posted at 05:29h, 30 NovemberHello,
We’re relocating fromToowng Qld 4066 in Brisbane, Australia to Lulea, Sweden (A town up north with port. Distance for container deliver from port 25km). We’re considering 20 foot vs 40 foot container door to door with self pack. We’re not moving until May 2015 but needing some rough estimates to start evaluating what to bring vs cost etc. I understand that quotes are not valid this far out but without any ideas of even estimations of cost, it is hard to start planing for it. There’s a lot of cumbersome musical equipment but all in pro touring road cases + a kayak trailer with kayaks and the last item is what most likely put us over the 20 foot container into the next area (but in return we could fit everything lock and dice in the 40′ container .. if a 20′ container is used, we would have to sell a lot of things and re buy… so cost difference is important.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 17:57h, 03 DecemberHello Hawkan, the price difference if you are self load and unloading between a 20ft and 40ft is normally little more than $1000 so it might well be worth getting the 40ft. I will get Chris to confirm the prices for you, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 00:08h, 30 NovemberI want to ship one large set of shelves from Sydney to my son who is living in London. They are in storage at the moment. Do you have any thoughts as to how I should do this? Thank you for your help!
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 18:00h, 03 DecemberHello Sandy it really depends how big they are and how valuable they are as my initial thought is the shipping might be more than the price of the shelves but we will be in touch to see the dimensions and weight and see what we can do for you, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 23:41h, 29 NovemberHello Mark,
I’m currently in Sydney, Australia and is going back to Taiwan soon. I’ve been here for quite a while and got a lot of things to take with me. My luggage is kind of overweight. If I want to do small amounts of shipping from Sydney to Taipei, Taiwan, like 10-15 kg, where should I to? From what I know what my friend did was to buy like 300 kg or something like that, and costed him over 100 bucks. That’s too much for me if I only want to do like 10-15 kg, maximum 20. Any suggestion? Thanks! 🙂
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 18:04h, 03 DecemberHello Margaret, for 10-15 kilos you cant beat the price of the post office. Suggest you mail it. Cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 04:01h, 29 NovemberWe most likely will be moving from Dayton, OH to Lausanne, Switzerland in around 8 mths and are trying to get some estimates for different metrics (by container size, number of rooms moved, total volume, number of boxes, total weight etc.). Based on the stimates we will decided how much furniture to ship from the US versus whether to purchase in Lausanne (despite the much higher prices there plus local delivery charges). We probably will have at least some furniture such as folding chairs and folding table, coffee table, small desk, book cases, camp bed frame with mattress (packaged), plus a number of boxes and suitcases of household items (kitchen and bath ), books, clothes. We may have one old car to ship as well. Some companies seem to want to know the exact items (by room example bedroom, study etc.) before quoting a rough estimate. This is sort of putting the cart before the horse because we would like to decide what to take from here versus what to buy from there based on rough cost estimates. For instance if somebody would tell us how much it costs for a certain cubic feet or for a certain weight we could figure out what priority items to pick to make up that volume or that weight. Can you please help ? We have ‘googled’ and really couldn’t find much reliable pricing information on an a la carte basis from origin to destination..
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 18:14h, 03 DecemberHello Satish, I think a self load 20 foot shipping container would be the way to go if your taking furniture. Stephanie in our office can quote you a price for this. It will be a lump sum price for whatever you can get to fit in the shipping container. Pete in our office will also send you our part load shipping prices to Switzerland so from there you can make a decision which is the best way to go. Cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 23:22h, 28 NovemberHi Mark,
I am moving from Hawaii to Perth. Can I use previously used cardboard boxes from my wifes’s work with markings on them or do I need to get new unmarked boxes for shipping by boat?
And do I write the entire contents on the box or do I attach a paper/form with a list?
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 18:19h, 03 DecemberHello Soren yes you can use previously used Boxes just tape over or use permanent marker to get rid of previous markings and bar codes. You will need to number your boxes and put your name on them. Also do a list that says things like Box 1 Clothes, Box 2 Books, Box 3 Kitchenware, Box 4 Toys etc etc We would need that list for Customs purposes, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 15:47h, 28 NovemberHiMark,
Moving from south of france to Vancouver island. First time shipping and looking at half a container!? Furniture/Bikes! life..
Thanks in advance
Wayne
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 18:58h, 03 DecemberHello Wayne, we can work out a price for you but to be honest with you, shipping half a container isn’t that much cheaper than a full self load option. If you ship half it gets loaded on and off trucks, goes through warehouses to be loaded and unloaded so everything needs to be very well packed professionally. If you go on a self load container price even if you don’t fill it, the container goes from your residence in Southern France to residence in Vancouver and its a lump sum price whatever you load in it so you know exact costs up front. Anyway I’ll get Chris in our EU office to contact you and quote you some options, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 19:02h, 03 DecemberHello Spike the boat is too wide for a container. 3 questions. Can you ship this and if yes how much would a 20 ft container be and finally do you do door to door?
Thanks,
Marcus

Posted at 22:24h, 02 DecemberHello Marcus, even if it doesn’t fill up the container it will still be the best way. We can quote you to arrival Dubai but you would need to fing a local customs broker there to clear customs pay port fees and duties and then truck to your Gym, I’ll get Stephanie in our office to contact you, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 06:21h, 28 NovemberHello Doc!
I have just moved from Santa Barbara California to NYC. I had to move in quite a hurry due to a job that was waiting for me in new york. I was able to pack all my belongings but did not have time to ship my boxes! They are currently in a friends garage in Santa Barbara. Im wondering if you can advise me on how to go about having a company pick up my belongings from my friends house. They are not weighed nor labeled and id like to make this as hassle free as possible for my friends who was been kind enough to store these boxes for me.
Thank you in advance!

Posted at 22:22h, 02 DecemberHello Victor, we could do it but a friend would have to let us know how many boxes and be able to stick labels on each box and be there to pass to our driver. If this is possible please email me move@upakweship.com and give me the details and will work out a rate for you, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 04:00h, 28 NovemberHi There,
I have recently decided that i will be moving from the UK to either Auckland or Melbourne. I need to know which one cheaper to ship to and how to work out how much space my personal effects would take up in a shipping container. I have packed my things and it is a combination of sporting goods, suitcases, boxes and garment bags. I am not taking any furniture however.
Many thanks,
Dominique Taylor

Posted at 21:15h, 27 NovemberMark,
My wife is selling her house in Mexico City (DF). We have sold most of the household items locally via “‘yard” sales and to family and friends. Now we are down to the things she would like to keep and ship to our home in Maryland (USA). Mostly paintings, some furniture and other art collectables. Can you please suggest some reputable companies that we can contact in order to get the packaging and shipping expedited.
Regards,
Tim
