    Hi
im am looking at shipping some personal belongings back to Vancouver from brisbane…basically just a few boxes.Ive measured it out and I know its less than 1 cbm.. like 2 3rds of a CBM . we have no restrictions on time… but are quite tight with money and have to get it shipped somehow. we also leave in a week. but we also dont want to pay for a full CBM when we have less than that.. any suggestions? or do you know of any links you can forward me, with some companies that arent too expensive?

Hi Beno, its important to get all inclusive prices and sometimes a cheap price up front can result in many extra charges upon arrival at the destination.

Hello Sascha, we do not do moves USA to Canada (yet) but I suggest if its all packed and ready to go, contact some trucking companies like ABF, R&L Carriers, UPS Ground, Yellow Freight. They should all give you quotes. You can save money on not paying a residential collection charge if you drop off at their terminal. Cheers The Moving Doctor

hi. i am in rio de janeiro thinking about moving to brazil. i want to ship my car and some small belonging as well. can i do this? ship my car and stuff from Toronto to rio de janeiro. i hear the problem is the taxes when you arrive. but i think you are allowed to bring one shipment here when you immigrate here (my husband is brazilian), tax-free. but only once. do you know anything about this? dana

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 18:21h, 06 February Reply

Hello Dana, as you say all is good until your shipment arrives in Brazil! Yes you might be entitled to a tax free entry but somehow you will still be charged all sorts of taxes and extra charges in Rio. There does not seem anyway around it. I suggest calling customs brokers and movers in Rio while you are there to get more advice and compare prices and what the extras are likely to be. We can ship it to any agent or customs broker you choose so while you are down there see what you can find out and who you feel comfortable with.
Hope your staying there for the World Cup!

I’m an artist living in Ottawa, Ontario and need to ship several canvases to Palo Alto, California. the largest of the works is 3′ x 4′ — the rest are much smaller and all can be bubble-wrapped together. They are unframed and light weight.

I usually use FedEx, but as there are 6 pieces altogether, it’ll be expensive.

Is there a better, cheaper way to ship — there’s no rush on delivery, so the shipment can take a week or two if necessary to lower costs.

    Many thanks for your advice.

Hi James, after the bubble wrap put your artwork into picture boxes which are available for sale at most movers and self storage places. I would also try some truckers like R&L Carriers, Yellow Freight, UPS ground for a comparison quote, cheers The Moving Doctor.

    Hi there Mark,

I am relocating to India (after 10 years in Aus) – to Kolkata from Sydney. I have 3 standard boxes and 5 books boxes which have my personal belongings like books, cds, dvds, clothes, shoes etc which I want to send preferably by sea. I have got quotes from Australian Vanlines and Affordable Shipping.

I did some research on Australian Vanlines and they seemed to have got bad reviews. Could you please let me know if you can shed any light on how they are. Or alternatively could you please suggest some movers for a job which is small, as I have been told by Crown Relocations and Wridgways.

Hello Marie, our U Box is 50 cubic feet see here https://www.upakweship.com/services-residential-ubox.php scroll down the bottom of page to see the video
and we have a 100 cube U Crate here https://www.upakweship.com/services-ucrate.php At the bottom of the page you have the 50.100/150 cubic foor crate dimensions. If you measure out these dimensions with a tape measure and masking tape on your floor and wall you can build yourself an accurate size crate!
30 cubic feet is about the equivalent of 5 large suitcases.
Also look at our UPak TV Pages where you can see you tube videos of some of our boxes and crates and also the pictures page at the bottom has some good shots of the 100 cube U Crate.
Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Doctor

    Hello Dr. Mark,
I have personal effects in Denmark. Volume size approx. 1.5 mtr x 1 mtr. x 1.5 mtr. Not much furniture. Only one coffee table 70 cm x 70 cm x 18 cm and a couple small end tables. The rest is mostly boxes and suitcases.
My husband has some personal effects and a motorcycle in Italy (North) in Este. His is mostly clothes. Also, he has some wooden masks, I think from Africa, that he inherited from his uncle…can these be brought into the States?

We need to get all this stuff moved to Sacramento California USA.
What do you suggest is the most effective and least expensive way to bring our stuff to the USA. Some of my stuff in Denmark are items that I am just returning to the USA (I moved them from Sac. a while back).

    Thank you,

Hello Misato, if that is looking expensive, try some trucking outfits like ABF, R&L Carriers or Yellow freight. You might have to drop off at their terminal in Vancouver but they should offer you a cheaper option to LA. Cheers The Moving Doctor

Hello Natelle, I will get our Air division to send you a quote for one box. Other option might be to take with you on the plane as excess luggage. Cheers The Moving Doc

I will be moving to Sweden within the next few months, and I have heard that when I ship my items, I will need to have some sort of list in/on the boxes telling what every single item in the box is and approximately how much every item is worth. I assume this is for declaring the items. Do you know if this is true or not? I don’t want to waste time making tons of lists if it is not necessary.

Hello Kassandra, you will need to number all your boxes and make a packing list something like this.
      Box 1 Clothes
      Box 2 Bedding
      Box 3 Books and toys
Box 4 Kitchen plates and utensils
Now if you need insurance on your boxes you will then have to do another list for the insurance company that’s like the above list but adding values to each box.
So in conclusion you have to say what’s in each box but not in too much detail. eg customs don’t need to know how many plates or spoons or t shirts you have.
Hope that helps, anything else let me know, cheers The Moving Doctor

Im moving from central Texas to Germany. I am having movers ship my house hold goods. I know they will pack all my large items but with the smaller items i need to pack them prior to the pick ip date. Are cardboard boxes alright to use or are plastic containers better. The main things i need to pack are clothes, picture frames and kitchen stencils. What is best?

Hello Jess, cardboard is fine just make sure you completely fill the boxes and tape up real well so that they keep their shape. Plastic totes with the folding lids or rubber made tubs are also great. You don’t need to fill them up fully to keep their shape. Make sure you tape the lids up well. I would tape underneath and right over the top like in 2 bands to make sure. Once in a while they will crack or split under a lot of weight but normally they work great. All the best with your move, cheers The Moving Doc

Any advice on the very cheapest way to move 5-6 Boxes (a couple are heavy, mostly books and papers and clothes) from San Francisco, CA, USA to Vancouver, BC, Canada?

Hello Byron, I suggest trying to fit in an extra couple of suitcase and check them in on the plane. If not try UPS ground service or if not try a large trucker like Yellow Freight or ABF or R&L Carriers, Cheers The Moving Doc

Hello Raj, I believe there are companies that specialize in shipping barrels to the Caribbean that you can probably Google. If not try post office or UPS, Cheers The Moving Doc
