Katie Manzano
Posted at 09:09h, 17 FebruaryHello,
My husband and I will be moving from Southern Spain to Pittsburgh this summer. We want to ship some of our household items including kitchen supplies (pots, pans, skillets, dishes), tools, and books, etc. Many of these items are not exactly light. I have shipped my things via FedEx before, just across the States, and things have arrived broken and the boxes barely holding together. You can understand my concerns for how things will arrive after an international journey.
What do you recommend for sending your household items? We want it to be reasonably priced, but also a service that will take care with our items. I would also prefer to go with someone that will take care of all of the paperwork necessary for customs and who will follow through with emails and phone calls if for some reason our shipment gets held up.
Your advice is greatly appreciated!
Regards,
Katie

Posted at 19:07h, 17 FebruaryHello Katie, we can certainly do everything you ask above. I suggest packing everything in strong cardboard boxes or may be get some shipping trunks? If using cardboard I would tape up well and all around in duct tape which is the strongest tape and will keep everything together. Make sure boxes are full so that they keep their shape and don’t collapse. After collection we would load on a pallet and shrink wrap them all together which adds extra protection. We do all the paperwork, have tracking and will answer all your questions and keep you informed. Chris Smith in our EU office will be in touch with some prices and service options, cheers The Moving Doctor.

Posted at 04:32h, 17 FebruaryHello
We are relocating from Auckland to Switzerland (D¨üdingen). We don’t have much to take with us but to much for a plane. We can drop off anywhere around Auckland and pick up pretty much anywhere in Switzerland or St Germany. and would have two race bikes and around 7 Boxes. Can you help us with that? or would you have any hints who could?
Thanks Jasmine

Posted at 00:27h, 17 FebruaryHi. How much does it cost to move a 1 bedroom apartment (condo) from Ottawa, Canada to Moscow, Russia?
I have a lot of stuff but I want to take only nice furniture (1/2 of 1 bedroom furniture) + several suitcases and a tricycle, no TVs. Well, maybe 2-3 boxes of china and some linen… and a desktop computer.
I am looking forward to your reply. Thank you.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 17:46h, 17 FebruaryHello Olga, I’m not sure if we have a service out of Ottawa to Moscow but will get Pete at our Canada desk to confirm that to you and if we do then he will be in touch with rates and service options, cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 22:48h, 16 FebruaryHi Mark,
I have many clothes , shoes, and no furniture. I do have two chairs and many books. I have 3 closets of clothing, and maybe 70 pairs of shoes to ship from Paris to Chester Springs, PA. Also some extra luggage to ship. Its ok if it takes 1-2 months to get there. What is the approximate cost? Should I get a container? I live in a small street in paris w/o much room. Ship boxes? I want to cut costs. Aso is it insured? tracked?
Thank you.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 17:44h, 17 FebruaryHello Gwen, yes if you pack everything in bubble wrap and pack the boxes full and tight we can collect from you. That will be the cheapest Door to Door price. Yes we can insure and we offer tracking, Chris in our EU office will be in touch to advise costs, cheers Mark

Posted at 20:43h, 16 FebruaryHi Mark,
I’m about to book a date with you guys, and I’m just wondering how I would pack the following items:
1) Baby’s crib mattress
2) Baby rocker with a large frame
3) Guitar in a hard case.
I’m not sure I can find boxes that will fit these. Are these OK to be packed on their own?
Cheers,
Lynette
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 17:40h, 17 FebruaryHello Lynette, I would wrap items in bubble wrap and cardboard and then place in one of our U Boxes. They are ideal for items that don’t fit into regular cartons.
I’ll get Pete in our office to contact you and offer you some prices, cheers Mark
Pilar
Posted at 01:00h, 16 FebruaryHi,
I would like to ship some boxes of books from DC to Paris but not sure how to go about it.
I am still unsure of the actual weight but I would like to know what are the options (if it´s charged by box, by weight, destination, a combination of all of these).
How do I know if I should get a crate or a pallet?
What type of boxes should I get (I´m afraid if they are too big and put too much weight inside they will break…)?
Thanks
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 17:37h, 17 FebruaryHello Pilar, you can get Book boxes from any self storage place or local U haul store. Pete in our office will come back to you with some rates and options, cheers The Moving Doctor
Eliane Castonguay
Posted at 23:12h, 15 FebruaryHi Mark. I need some advice; I am leaving Australia after 10 years and moving back to Montreal. having said that I will be spending equal amounts of time in Dublin as well.
I have roughly a cubic meter to send only.. if that, and would be happy with half in Dublin and half in Montreal.
My question is… is it better to send it to Dublin and then a few boxes onwards to Montreal or vice versa.
I am completely confused on what to do…
I remember inquiring about sending a few kilos from Dublin to Montreal in the past and it was crazy expensive!! please help?
Thanks El
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 17:31h, 17 FebruaryHello Eliane, I’ll get Chris in our EU office to send you some prices and service options but generally its going to be a lot cheaper if you send it all to one destination (I think Dublin), even if that means taking an extra suitcase with you to Montreal on the plane. We are not crazy expensive! I think you will be pleasantly surprised 🙂
Cheers and Happy Travels, The Moving Doctor

We will receive gifts for our wedding and we want to find out how to ship these items back to the UK. I wondered what type of services your company offers for small shipments from the US (New York) to the UK (London.) We anticipate to have several kitchen good (pots, plates, wine glasses etc), bedroom items (comforters, pillows, sheets) and bathroom ware (towels, rugs, etc.) We will not have any large items or furniture. Please can you advise if you offer this type of shipping service and if so what the estimate cost would be?

Posted at 18:56h, 12 FebruaryHi! This summer, I will be moving from Aarhus, Denmark to New Jersey, USA (probably Hoboken, Jersey City, or similar). I currently have a fully furnished and decorated 70 square meters apartment. I would like to take all of my personal belongings with me. Of my furniture, I am only planning on bringing a big dining table (2 x 1 meters) and potentially a couch (2.5 meters wide and includes a chaise longue). How much would be the cost for door to door delivery/or if I were to collect it from the service port? Are there additional charges to be paid in terms of custom/tax once the shipment is ready for collection? Thx!!!

Posted at 18:45h, 12 FebruaryI need to move approx 500 lbs of house hold furnishings from Vancouver, BC 1Z3V7G to San Juan Capistrano, CA. Can you please tell me how much it will cost and what carriers can do this?
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 14:51h, 13 FebruaryHello Debbie, we don’t operate a service on this route but if its all packed up in boxes I suggest getting a price from R&L Carriers, YRC Trucking and UPS ground freight easily found on Google. To save money and avoid waiting around for a truck to show up all day it might be worth your while dropping off at their terminals in Vancouver. Hop that helps and enjoy the warmer weather!

The Moving Doctor
Posted at 15:52h, 12 FebruaryHello AJ, I would look at UPS ground service or DHL / FedEx. If not try the large truckers like YRC, R&L Carriers of ABF Freight. You should be able to find them all on Google and get competitive prices, cheers The Moving Doctor

The Moving Doctor
Posted at 14:48h, 10 FebruaryHello McKenzie all our pod like crates being the UPod, UBox or UCrate are all lump sum price whatever you fill them up with providing its a mix of household items. So weight is not a factor with us. As our web site says weight isn’t an issue unless you are dieting 🙂
I’ll get Pete in our office to email you some prices for our pods, cheers The Moving Doctor.

Posted at 17:29h, 09 FebruaryHi
We are trying to move a 2bedroom apartment from brooklyn to UK (outside of London). How much would it cost roughly and how long will it take the shipment to arrive? Do all the intermatiaonl movers provide storage if we need it?
Thanks!!!
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 15:01h, 10 FebruaryHello JP, it depends how much you have and whether you need packing services or you plan on doing yourself. A full shipping container can take 4-5 weeks door to door and a part load 5-7 weeks door to door. We can certainly provide storage in UK as we have 5 storage terminals in the UK. I think the other top companies in UK can as well. Always store at the destination so its already in the country waiting delivery when you want it and you can also get your winter / summer clothes or kids toys etc if need be out of your storage shipment.
I’ll get Pete from our self pack and Ken from our full service division to contact you and offer rates and service options, cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 02:07h, 09 FebruaryHi, i was recently transferred from Ottawa Canada to Las Vegas NV, US. I will go back in Canada in the end of February to pack all my belongings and move them in US. I’m still debating with my wife which is the best way to do this. I think U-haul may be according with everything I read on internet so far but my wife insists to look for an alternative solution. I’m talking about 4 bedroom home.
Thank you in advance
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 15:04h, 10 FebruaryHello Adrian, if you have the time and fitness to move a 4 bed home then yes you cant beat renting a truck from U Haul or Ryder trucks. Alternatives with self pack options but they drive it would be PODS or ABF Moving. I agree with you though that U Haul will be the cheapest. Good luck, cheers The Moving Doctor.

The Moving Doctor
Posted at 15:10h, 10 FebruaryHello Cem, we don’t do domestic but I suggest if used it will cost more than they are worth. If new I suggest getting the vendor to deliver for you. Only other suggestion is getting a company to bid on carrying these from a site like U Ship like the companies you see on shipping wars. I have never used this service though so it isn’t a recommendation, cheers The Moving Doctor

I’m planning on moving from Denver to Bucks, England and am thinking of shipping my furniture, minus the electronics, clothing and baby stuff but trying to work out if it’s worth it. When I moved to Denver I sold everything in England and bought when I arrived but don’t really want to do this again. I guess it depends on the cost and ease of shipping! Any info would be great, thanks

Posted at 14:28h, 07 FebruaryMy girlfriend has decided to move in with me in the US. We are trying to figure out the best way to move her personal belongings without a hassle. Is it easier for myself to rent a Uhual and cross the US border by myself or does it not really matter?
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 17:52h, 07 FebruaryHi Sean, that depends on where you are coming from…Mexico or Canada? how much stuff? Personally the more you do yourself I think the cheaper it becomes so yes if its drivable and all fits in a van then go for it. If larger may be a PODS or similar self pack service might be best. Good luck, cheers The Moving Doctor.

Posted at 17:22h, 06 FebruaryHello,
I would appreciate your advice. In July,2013 I paid @2500 for the shipment of 10 small boxes of household effects from Chilliwack, British Columbia to New Brighton, Merseyside. After they arrived in Dartford in October,2014, I decided to return to Canada. The goods never left Dartford, and I asked the receiving company,to return them to Canada, which the did, and I paid the 750 pounds for doing so. The goods are due to arrive in Vancouver on 18th February,2014. The English company is demanding a payment of 650 pounds sterling for insurance of my low value goods. I did not ask for or want insurance. What are my rights.
Regards,
William Turnbull

Posted at 18:08h, 06 FebruaryHello Mr Turnbull. I am not a lawyer but really don’t think you need to pay for anything that you did not request. I would not pay them before checking with any trade association that this company might belong to. Most International movers in England will belong to FIDI, IAM, or The British Association or Removals. Find out what association they belong to and email your question and complaint. If that fails I would consult a solicitor and also advise this company that you might be considering telling the press, Angies List, movingscam etc of your story. Always keep it in a good tone though. Let me know if I can help further and feel free to email me direct if you need more specifics. move@upakweship.com attn. The Moving Doctor
