Posted at 14:13h, 18 MarchHello Dilek, I have not don this or know anyone that has done this journey but I can tell you that you will only have to clear customs once in to Europe. This will happen in Greece as that’s presumably your first point of entry into Europe so you will need to clear customs on Greek paperwork. Might be best if you call or email Greek Customs and ask what they would require and may be contract a Greek Customs broker to help you. Once through Greek Customs you are into Europe and there should not be any more customs. You will need to have your passport obviously and also a packing list you can show any customs officer of what is in the van like box 1 Books, Box 2 Clothes, 3 Chair, 4 table etc etc. Hope that helps cheers Mark

Posted at 15:04h, 16 MarchWe are trying to work out our potential costs for a move back to England next year.
1. It will probably take a few months after we get back ourselves to buy a new residence in the UK. What is the current cost per month for you to store a 20ft container until we know where we want it delivered. In fact, do you even provide this service?
2. On your ‘shared container’ page, it says that everything must be stored in boxes. Are these boxes provided by you, and what are the dimensions of the largest sized boxes. If not, are there limits on the size of box?
3. We think we would probably fill half a 20 foot container but this would include a few pieces of furniture. Would it end up more economical to pay for the whole container and just have some of it empty?
Thank you for your help.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 14:24h, 17 MarchHello Trish, we can quote you both ways. I’ll get Stephanie to quote you on a 20ft self load and Pete to send you some part load options and prices. Regarding the storage though, you are better off finding a self store near when you are going to move to and unload the container into the self store as you can not store in shipping containers long term. Posted at 22:22h, 13 MarchI’m planning an international move from the US to the UK. I’m looking at quotes for shipping a small amount of items, under 200 cubic feet (possibly under 150 cu ft.). These quotes all include someone to pack my boxes – something I would prefer to do myself. Is there any issue with this? One Customer Service rep that technically I’m not allow to pack my own boxes. This seems insane to me. Is this something to do with Customs clearance? Also, is there any isse with bringing my items TO the shipping location, rather than door to door. What are some standard “hidden” fees that shipping companies are likely to not provide upfront that I should be wary of? Thanks for your assistance!
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 13:42h, 14 MarchHello Carey, you have some good questions here!
First of all, we have 2 divisions here, a full service moving company called EuroUSA that will come and pack everything up for you and our self packing division called UPakWeShip where you can pack everything yourself and we can collect or you can drop off at one of our 88 terminals in the USA.
Its an old wives tale that a mover has to pack your things. Moving companies tell you this and scare you into thinking you will have problems the other end with customs but in reality how would they know who packed it? They tell you this so they can have $10 / hour packers come to your house and charge you $100 per hour for packing! If it really was a problem we wouldn’t be in business and have 3 licenses from the US Government!
Some companies will have a whole list of things not included like port charges, terminal charges, fuel surcharge, customs inspection, x ray charges just to name a few. UPakWeShip is as far as I know the ONLY company that includes all these charges in their quotes and still has the best prices!
I’ll get Pete in our office to email you our prices and service options. I think however out 200 cubic foot self load U Pod might be the best bet for you. You can load it at our terminals and we will ship everything through to your home in the UK. Cheers The Moving Doctor

We are moving from Bath, UK to Seattle in May. We have personal effects . The total volume is less then 2 cubic meters, less if we don’t take the antique wardrobe. Total weight is less then 200 kilos.
Is it best to go with sea or air freight? We don’t mind how long it takes it’s the cost we are concerned about. We have one painting worth £3000. The rest is worth only £1000. Also what is the best way to pack linens?
Many thanks

Posted at 04:24h, 12 MarchHi!
I have an old table that’s been in my family for decades that’s currently on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada and I’m looking to have it shipped to New Orleans, LA USA.
It doesn’t really hold any real monetary value-…just sentimental- it’s old and beaten up but I love it.
I’m looking to inquire how I could go about getting said table to my residence in New Orleans.
Do you have any recommendations for shipping services from Canada to the US for this sort of thing?
Thanks!

Posted at 17:36h, 11 MarchHello Mr. Nash,
Do you know any good shipping company for shipping household goods (i.e., it’s a full move) from Santiago, Chile to Delray Beach, Florida, USA? How much more do we have to pay if we choose a door-to-door service (provided that it’s available)? We will most likely need a 20-foot container, because that was how we moved to Chile, but the company we used for that move does not do the moving in the opposite direction (i.e., they don’t ship from Santiago to Delray Beach, FL). Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Posted at 00:56h, 11 MarchHi doc,
We’re moving from North Carolina to Finland this summer and would like to know what our best options are for moving with or without furniture. As many have stated already we want to avoid repurchasing our furniture all over again but its also finding that balance in price. We would like to take our couch, 2 x dressers 2 desks, 2 office chairs a lounge chair and about 40 boxes. All our furniture breaks down easily as it’s from ikea. Would it be a good idea to break the furniture back down and fit in a box again if we do decide on moving everything? Can you recommend some companies to reach out to? We’re also considering 1 or 2 UBOX and try to get most of the furniture back into a box.
Thanks
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 13:31h, 12 MarchHello Jed, the most cost effective way to move overseas is ditch the furniture and only ship your personal items in boxes or load up a U Box or bite the bullet and self load a shipping container and take all your furniture. Obviously you can ship just some furniture but the cost per item is going to be higher that way than if you shipper it all. Also bear in mind that sometimes Ikea furniture doesn’t go back together too well once it has been dismantled! Either way though I’ll get Stephanie in our office to quote you on a self load 20 foot container and Pete to give you some rates and options for U Boxes and U Pods. Cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 22:59h, 10 MarchHi,
I am planning on moving my stuff from the Netherlands to the UK (Around June). I am sending it to my new university campus (which I will be in around October). From June to October I will probably be going back home in the Middle East. It just does not make sense to me to take my stuff all the way to the middle east then take them to the UK when I go there in October.
It should be around 50 – 60 kilos maximum and basically would fit in a suitcase. What is your recommendation?

Posted at 17:02h, 10 MarchHi,

Posted at 13:24h, 12 MarchHello Dan, if that was the case we wouldn’t be in business! Posted at 15:34h, 10 MarchHI,
I’m relocating from Hong Kong to Canada and looking for a quote for some extra luggage at most 60kg and will easily fit in 2 boxes (730 x 550 x 460mm). I will prefer sea freight to keep cost at its lowest. My current lowest cost is at GBP 190. Any better choice? Thank you
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 13:21h, 12 MarchHello Virgile, 190 GBP sounds very good. Only other suggestion is may be get a premium economy ticket which comes with a larger baggage allowance and enjoy the comfort and take on the plane! Good luck, cheers The Moving Doc

Posted at 12:06h, 10 MarchHi Mark,
I am relocating from Dubai to London in June and will only bring personal belongings such as clothes, bed linen, books, accessories etc and it will all fit in boxes – looked at a storage calculator site since I will put it directly into storage and it would fit in a 10 sq feet area – max 15..
So my question to you is how do I ship it the most cost effective? Prefer a door to door service – if you have any companies to suggest I would be grateful!

I’m moving back to Canada from Dubai this April and am sourcing moving quotes for either sea or air freight. I have a small 1 bedroom apartment but am only bringing back 1 arm chair, an end table and of course a lot of clothes. I recently received a quote for $9500! Is that standard or overpriced? Can you suggest a shipping company? Thanks! RM
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 14:09h, 10 MarchHello Robyn that sounds very high for a small shipment. There are a lot of companies out there to choose from. Here are a few we know that should give you a good competitive quote, all easily found on Google. Crown relocation, Santa Fe, AGS, Global Relocation and GAC. Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 19:59h, 09 MarchHi there ,
We are looking at moving back to South Africa from the uk hopefully by the end of next year . We basically have a king size bed that can be flat packed , L shape sofa that can be taken apart partially, cheats of draws witch is large , small tv table and kitchen accessories , few living room accessories . What would our best options be ? I read that shipping is cheaper than by plane . I just think selling out stuff is just not going to be the right thing for us as it’s taken us a while to build this ” home ” and in South Africa it would be a costly affair to re purchase all things from the beginning again .
And then on a second note , not sure if u have any advice on taking over pets ? Breaks my heart to think they would have to be in a cage all alone but they are must at coming with ( 2 cats )
Thanks so so much for your time

Posted at 21:57h, 07 MarchHi my hubby has lots and lots of car parts and I was wondering do u hav any suggestions on best way to move car parts.
Thanks Karen
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 13:52h, 10 MarchHello Karen, as car parts tend to be heavy I would wrap them in plenty of packing paper and place in book carton size boxes. Make sure boxes are packed full of crumpled up paper so there is no space and therefore boxes will hold their shape even when stacked on top of each other. Tape up well using duct tape or 2 inch moving tape. Good luck, cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 03:26h, 07 MarchHi,
I am moving to the UK and am looking to ship my bedroom set, along with several boxes of various household items and would like to know the best way to ship the furniture and boxes together. I seem to be able to find means of shipping just boxes, or an entire household, but my circumstances seem to fall somewhere in between. My bedroom set consists of a queen size bed with box spring, headboard and footboard, two bedside tables, a chest of drawers, and a long chest of drawers with a mirror on top. I would be looking at approximately 20 – 30 tea chest sized boxes in addition to the furniture, although this number could probably be pared down a bit if necessary. We are not fussed about how long it takes to arrive as we have furniture we can use for our initial few months, and we also have a place to store our belongings if they arrive sooner than anticipated. We are on a tight budget and are looking to do this as economically as possible. We’ll be moving from Chicago to Berks. Cheers.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 13:51h, 07 MarchHello Melissa, I’ll get Pete in our office to contact you and give you some service options and prices. I would say however the best bang for your buck is either shipping just boxes and no furniture or if you are going to want to ship some furniture you might as well ship all of it. Anything in between is do able but not always the most cost effective way of shipping. Cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 19:51h, 06 MarchHello Rose, what are you shipping and from where? If you are moving and all items are over 6 months old then generally there wont be any duties or taxes. Cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 05:45h, 05 MarchHi, I need to move about 200Kg of car parts measuring i am told 13x4x2 feet, from Poole, england, to my house in suburban sydney (2234 NSW Australia). The supplier in england supplies ex-works for people to collect and is not much help with the international aspects of this order. What i need is a suitable box delivered to the factory in Poole for them to pack. then the box (LCL) to be collected and delivered to sydney, cleared port etc, delivered to my house, and the box unloaded from the local delivery truck.
Even if you can only assist me with the ‘box’ part of this process that would be good!
thanks,
Tim

Posted at 13:45h, 04 MarchHi Mark,
I’m moving to the US later this year from the Netherlands, and I’m wondering what my best option would be? I only have my personal belongings, no furniture needs to be moved.
Thanks
Lars
