Posted at 16:16h, 01 JuneWould it be better to ship by volume or weight the following household goods, clothing, & 4 pieces of furniture weighing approx. 3,000 pounds from Louisiana to Hawaii
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 16:08h, 02 JuneHi Errol, personally I prefer volume because its an easier way to visualize! However most American movers will quote you based on weight as that’s the way the military requires pricing to be and as they are the largest moving customer in America they get their way! If you want a full service move and are asking van lines like Allied, United and Atlas for quotes you will receive them all with a rate per one hundred pounds. If you are looking at a self pack and load 20 foot container then this can be quoted by us as an all inclusive lump sum price. Stephanie in our office handles the containers and if you would like a quote can be reached at exports@eurousa.us Cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 14:58h, 01 JuneHello,
I am moving from Italy (Fossano (CN)) to the USA (Portland, OR)… I need to ship 20 plastic-storage-containers (43 pounds each)… Mostly books, clothes and some kitchen ware I am very attached to.
I am looking for the least expensive shipping option. I have considered bringing the stuff myself to the nearest sea-port (Genova) and shipping to Seattle (being a sea-port, as well) and picking up the shipment myself.
Please let me know what would be best to do???
Thank you,
Elizabeth

Posted at 16:14h, 02 JuneHello Elizabeth, thanks for the message, I’ll get our EU office to contact you and send you a door to door quote for your International Move, cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 16:17h, 02 JuneHello Angie, I would think if you only have clothes and personal items to be moved to Hawaii our U Cube would be perfect. We can send this to you for you to load up, collect it when your are finished and ship it over to Hawaii for you, all for a lump sum all inclusive price. I’ll get Pete in our office to email you a quote, cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 18:15h, 31 MayHi,
we are planing to move back to Australia(Canberra) from North Carolina, USA. We are currently living in a 2800 sf house with a large amount of toys clothes and furniture. We would like to get an idea of how much will cost to get a 20 feet container for international moving like this? Any additional fees like labor , custom service charge and tax duty?
Thanks!
Sharon
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 16:26h, 02 JuneHello Sharon, I’ll get Stephanie who manages the self load shipping division to email you some information and a door to door price. It will be all inclusive based on you packing and loading everything yourself. If you need help in the loading I suggest hiring a couple of guys for a few hours from a local moving company or 2 men and a truck to help you load. Also ask them to bring a walk ramp with them that makes it much easier to load the container. Only extra you will have to pay is the AQIS fee in Australia. This is for the authorities down there to unload the container and inspect your items for any bugs, ex living things like straw baskets, pressed flowers, wreaths and also dirt so make sure garden tools, golf clubs, shoes are all clean. Stephanie will be in touch with more advice. Also take a look at our Moving to Australia tips presentation.
Joanne Cardone
Posted at 00:46h, 30 MayHello,
We have been living in the US (Michigan) and have accumulated clothes, toys and other household goods that we now need to ship back to Australia (Adelaide). I need to find out the best way of doing this and am particularly interested in the cost. I’m guessing that if we packed everything into 4.5 cu/ft moving boxes then we would have approximately 15 boxes. We also have an adult bike. We can get the stuff shipped anytime from now (we are about 6 weeks from arrival back in Australia) and do not expect it to have arrived by the time we get there (though that would be nice).
I’ll look forward to hearing from you,
Joanne Cardone.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 14:40h, 30 MayHello Joanne, thanks for the message, we have lots of Cardones (well 3 of them) working for us here, I wonder if you are related? 🙂
I’ll get Pete (who’s not a Cardone) though to email you some prices and service options, cheers The Moving Doctor
PS you will need to put the bike in a bike box which you can normally get from a bike store as new bikes are often delivered to the stores in boxes. You will have to take the pedals off though and possible the handlebars and front wheel depending on the size.

I will get Chris Corder in our USA office to contact you and offer assistance here but due to the weight you would have to find someone local to collect it and get some sort of heavy duty pallet underneath it in order for us to then be able to ship it. Posted at 19:11h, 28 MayHi
Moving to Denmark from Atlanta in July. We plan to pack a 20 ft container with our household items. We moved our items before, when we moved from Denmark to Atlanta several years ago. Can you help with an estimate and what loading a container is like here? I understand you have only a few hours to load or you pay the drivers extra. Thanks a bunch
John
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 21:29h, 28 MayHello John, good choice! Yes you would get a door to door all inclusive quote from us based on you packing and loading and unloading yourself. You get 2 hours free and then its $95 per hour here while the driver waits (or sleeps in his cab lol) and about 95 Euros in Denmark per hour. We have a How to Load your own shipping container program on UPak TV if you go to our web site http://www.upakweship and click on UPak TV under the information heading. On UPak TV look at the Services Channel and Self load Container.
I’ll get Stephanie here to drop you an email to see if you need a quote, cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 22:25h, 24 MayWe’re packing boxes to fit your 40×48 palette for baggage service. You are putting together the boxes on the palette after picking them up at our house. Is it ok to have boxes on their side? It all fits well when we do this, but how will your guys know how to make the puzzle fit together ? The 18x18x16 boxes have to be on their side to make it work. To be exact:
4 18x18x16 boxes
6 12x12x16
1 bike box 8 x 48 x 26
(maybe 1 more 8″ wide box on top)
Thanks
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 19:08h, 28 MayHello Dan, our guys are used to putting together boxes to make them fit but we don’t normally put boxes on their side and they are not strong that way around and are more likely to get damaged. If you have a smaller width at an end of a pallet then how about a suitcase placed there? Hope this helps if not drop me an email at move@upakweship.com, cheers The Moving Doctor
Jeff McMahon
Posted at 18:47h, 24 MayHello,
I have a shared container scheduled in a couple of weeks. I am trying to calculate the space I have to work with. The Upakweship website says to calculate by LxWxH and divide by 1728.
I have boxes that are 24″ by 18″ by 18″. Doing the math that’s 4.5 cubic feet per box.
Does this mean that I have approximately 22 boxes I can pack of this size and stay within what I have paid for?
I ask because I am assuming these boxes will be loaded onto 48″ by 40″ pallets, meaning there will be wasted space with the size boxes I have selected.
Ultimately I just need to know how the space is calculated. Is it by the box, or by the amount of space they will consume on the pallet?
Thanks,
Jeff
Jeff McMahon
Posted at 18:48h, 24 MayForgot to mention that I’m paying for the 51 – 100 cubic feet option.

Posted at 20:57h, 20 MayWill a small car ( Ford Fiesta or similar) plus some small furniture and boxes fit in a 20 ft container? – To move to Sweden.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 19:08h, 21 MayHello Inger, yes it will. You can also load items in the car and trunk up to window height. You will then have about 5 linear feet to stack your other items and then build a bulk head to stop it all falling down on the car. To see how you do this look at our packing and loading tips here and also our how to load a car in a container presentation here.
Cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 12:47h, 20 MayI am thinking of using a shared container (based within 50miles of Allentown, PA in Bethlehem PA), but the “shared container” info says that I need to drop it off at a terminal, even though a pull-down tab says door-to-door.
I have a friend who used it and she said it was door-to-door.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 13:09h, 20 MayHello Jadine, we give you options of either dropping off at our terminal or we can collect from your ground floor front door. I’ll get Pete in our office to email you where you are going and then confirm the pricing for you, cheers and sorry for any confusion, The Moving Doctor

Posted at 16:48h, 19 MayWe have booked a 20 ft container for our move to Germany. What kind of hardware will be inside the container to fasten ropes, straps, etc.? Are there loops or hooks along the edges to help with that?
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 13:27h, 20 MayHello Dwayne, there will be tie rings in the corners top and bottom. You will have to purchase your own straps if needed or possibly a load bar to hold everything in place if you needed. They are useful if you have something heavy like a piano or safe or something on wheels that you don’t want it to slide around. Other options as inside of the container is corrugated would be to wedge in 8ft 6 inch 4×2 posts from floor one side to roof the other side to form a large X and place plywood sheets or a mattress in front to hold everything in place.
I suggest however you don’t need to tie or secure anything in place as long as you load everything in there at the same height throughout and tight left to right so if the truck driver jams on his brakes or the ship rolls 45 degrees in a rough sea nothing can move. It doesn’t matter how high you stack the container as long as the floor space it totally covered and loaded tight side to side and front to back.
You can find more information about loading a container on our web site here for container loading tips scroll down page https://www.upakweship.com/tips.php
We also have a lot of information on our UPak TV page click here to view. https://www.upakweship.com/Upack_TV.php

Posted at 09:36h, 17 MayHi Mark, My name is Isabelle, I’m originally from London but grew up in the US. My soon to be Dutch ex-husband is the reason for my move back to the US. And as you can imagine, the expense of shipping our personal items is a big concern for me with all the other expenses surrounding the divorce. I live in Germany on the border with the Netherlands and would like to move asap to Niceville, Florida. I’d like your advice on the most cost effective way of getting our things to Florida. I’m quite capable of packing everything myself (moved 17 times in my life) and I have enough friends here to help load crates or a sea container. If that’s possible, what is the procedure with the inventory list, paperwork, etc. and obviously the costs.
Thank you so much for your assistance, Isabelle
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 17:29h, 19 MayHi Isabelle, I’m from just outside of London too!. Oh dear sorry to hear about your situation. If you are thinking about shipping furniture I would go with a 20 foot shipping container self pack and load and unload option. This will definitely be the cheapest way to get everything over here, basically you load and unload and we do everything in between. Alternatively if you want a cheaper options then leave all the furniture and just take your personal items, pack everything into moving boxes using plenty of bubble wrap and we can offer you a door to door service for a pretty good price.
I’ll get Chris in our office here to email you and offer more in depth options and prices and hopefully we will be able to look after you and get you back here with all your things at a good price.
Men huh! 🙂 Or as I say to my American wife quite often referring to me “Bloody Foreigners” lol

Pack them full and nice and tight and tape with duct tape. I would ask DHL UPS and FedEx for prices. Hope that helps a little, I can recommend some International Movers in Turkey if you need but think this might be a bit small to get a competitive price, Cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 18:22h, 13 MayI want to ship a Ubox or a UCrate from Chicago (IL) to Italy.
Where are your terminals in Illinois? maybe there is one in Chicago, please give me the address.
How long it will take from US to Italy.
Do I need to buy your service online or can I buy it at the terminal?
How long it will take to have the Ubox or the Ucrate at my home?
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 13:03h, 14 MayHello Antonio, we have a receiving terminal for a U Crate in Chicago near the airport. We would give you the address after we have set you up in our system and done the paperwork. Its our way of making sure the paperwork is done before you drop off your things and leave the country 🙂 Transit time is going to be in the 6-8 week range. Yes you would have to book online and do the paperwork with our customer service team. After you have loaded we will then email you an invoice so you don’t pay anything up front or at the time of booking. If you are going to do the U Cube (as we now call it) it takes about a week to get it to your home so we need a weeks notice on the booking please.
I hope that helps and let me know if you need anything further, Cheers The Moving Doctor

I would like to simply ship one box weighting around 30 kg from Munich to Quebec City. I have no hurry and have preferrence for the cheapest way. The content is clothes and small kitchen ware and the shipping would be done in September.
Yours faithfully,
Diana

Posted at 12:40h, 09 MayHi – I am moving from Philadelphia to Duesseldorf Germany. A 20′ container should be enough to fit all my stuff into. Would it be possible to transport my motorcycle in that container also?

Posted at 11:55h, 09 MayHi Nash,
We’re moving from new Orleans to Dubai. Its about 6-8 boxes of kids books toys and clothes, I can drop off and pick up, I need to know approximately what cost I’m looking at and ESP the delivery charges like costumes etc. are these for items that need special clearance or just used books and personal items too?
Why are these charges not reflected in the initial quote given by companies, do they not have an agent there who would help with the custom clearance?
Also if I understand correct it’s by volume not weight?
I would appreciate a quote
Thanks,
A bit confused.

Posted at 10:52h, 09 MayI am originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, USA, but now live in Sydney Australia. There are a number of items – still in Greensboro NC – which I have inherited. I want to ship them to Australia. I estimate that if consolidated into a single crate or pallet, the items (a desk, 2 large portraits, and 8-10 mid-sized boxes of other smaller items) would be 5-6 cubic metres, and weigh perhaps 500kg. I will be in North Carolina in July 2014, and can pack all of the items.
What are my options for shipping to Australia? I know it is certainly less than a container load, perhaps even less than would fill a small POD (if hiring a POD in North Carolina and returning it in Australia is even an option!). I am not particularly fussed about speed, so sea freight would, I think, be OK (probably cheaper too).
Any advice is welcome
