Posted at 20:52h, 17 FebruaryHi,
We are moving from New York to the UK. We don’t think it’s worth shipping furniture but will have about 10 boxes of kids toys / household items. Wondering roughly how much that would cost, no rush but door to door would be great!
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 09:20h, 18 FebruaryHello Kath, to be honest I don’t blame you! I’ll get Peter in our office to email you our baggage rates which is not only the best way but the cheapest way to send about 10 boxes to The UK. Our rates are all inclusive and you can either drop off at one of our NY terminals or we can collect from your residence. All our rates include delivery to your door in UK.

Posted at 07:37h, 17 FebruaryHello Moving Doctor,
I’m moving back to the USA after 10 years in Provence, France. I’m trying to decide whether we ship 2 euro pallets of essentials (already packed and ready to go!) or try and fill a 20 foot container. Once we have an accurate quote, we can decide. The problem is, its urgent. We’d like to have the items picked up on the 5th of March! Thanks for any suggestions you can give. — Camille
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 13:26h, 17 FebruaryHello Camille, well lets send you a quote for both options and you can work out which is the best option for you. I’ll email you the pallet quote and Stephanie will work out the container quote for you. First though she will need to know where you are moving to in The USA. Cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 15:07h, 16 FebruaryHi, I am planning to ship personal effects from Madrid, Spain to Minneapolis, MN totaling about 300 lbs which I understand we can do by airfreight. If we want to add 3/4 pieces of furniture, what is the smallest portion of an overseas container we can ‘rent’. Also, do you have shipping company recommendations from Spain? Thanks.
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 13:23h, 17 FebruaryHello Jacques, I will get Chris Corder in our office to email you some prices and options available for shipping from Spain to the USA. Cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 13:36h, 14 FebruaryHi, I am wondering how much it would cost to ship two separate couches and 2 carpets. Both couches are sectionals from Kuwait to New York. Cheers!
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 09:27h, 16 FebruaryHello Bobby, I would ask some other expats there who they have used in Kuwait and see if you can get a recommendation. If not try Allied Pickfords or AGS Movers who are both good in the area to advise you prices. Ideally you want a company that consolidates shipments to New York so you would share the cost of shipping container. I hope that helps, cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 10:22h, 13 FebruaryHi there,
Looking to ship my 21.5 Screen IMAC from Toronto to Dublin. What would be the best options? I have the original box:
64cm width x 23cm depth x 54cm height.
Cheers, helen

Posted at 09:13h, 16 FebruaryHello Helen, I think the cheapest way would be to send courier like UPS or DHL. Cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 05:19h, 12 FebruaryHi, we are just about to start organising a move from UK to North Carolina (a place not to far from Raleigh). I am just trying to work out whether it is financially better to ship all of our belongings over or buy new. It would roughly be the following;
Pine double bed with mattress
Pine single bed with mattress
Dining table and 4 chairs
3 seater sofa, 2 seater sofa and 2 chairs
Pine cot with mattress
Large pine corner bookshelf
Pine coffee table
Pine Welsh dresser
Pine tv stand
2 42″ tv’s
2 DVD players
2 boxes of children’s toys
2 Xbox’s
Clothes we can take on our flight over.
Do we pay a standard price for a container and then see what we can fit into it? We would want door to door
Any advice on what is best and a rough cost would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Gemma
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 12:06h, 12 FebruaryHello Gemma, yes I can work out a self load 20 foot shipping container price for you. It will be a lump sum price and as you say you can load as much as you can in it. I’ll email you to find out where abouts you are in the UK and then I will be able to advise a quote and take it from there. Cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 11:01h, 08 FebruaryHello!
I am moving in a few months from the USA to France. I am not a resident of France, and will not have a visa until I am already living in the country. I am unsure of what documentation I need to have… my fiancé will be in France to receive the items I send. I am in no rush, a slower and less expensive method would be fine. I am shipping a few tables, some stereo equipment, a chair and a desk, as well as some personal items in boxes. Please help!

Posted at 15:32h, 06 FebruaryHeya – I’m considering relocation to London (UK) from Boston (US). We have furniture and contents from a small 2 bedroom plus 1 study house. Rough estimate on volume is 1000 cubic feet of household furniture and stuff. what would the cost of shipping that be? how long should I expect the transit to take?
thanks!
Susan
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 11:00h, 09 FebruaryHello Susan, after the weather your having up there I don’t blame you but I’m thinking you might prefer Spain lol!
1000 cubic feet will fit in nicely to fill a 20 foot container so I’ll get Stephanie to email you a door to door quote. Transit though should be about 5 weeks but will get Stephanie to confirm that. Cheers The Moving Doctor

Posted at 09:18h, 05 FebruaryHi,
hope this is in your remit to help…..
I want to buy hair extensions from China – main company is in Yiwu City – Zheijiang Province…..of course..until i establish trust – i will keep orders to a minimum….
I am based in Islamabad Pakistan (originally a Brit)….
the cost of the products is fair enough – but what can I expect to pay in shipping? It’s difficult to get a straight answer – I don’t necessarily want shipment to arrive within 3 days – and would be happy to wait up to three weeks for delivery…which company will give best price? I would expec that they would fit into the presized 10 and 20 kg DHL boxes…
Shipping seems exorbitant….
hope you can help – pls
Oh – by the way – shipping to Pak from Uk was done really well by Europak Cargo – door to door pick ups – 1.50 GBP per kg – 20 kg minimum…..electrical small items 3 for 10 GBP – – heavier items about the same price – but about 3 GBP per kg additional…
and the sea cargo arrived in les than 3 weeks each time… – if that’s useful to anyone
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 11:00h, 05 FebruaryHello Shaynel, if your orders are small you choices are UPS, FedEx and DHL. If you are not happy with their prices direct may be look for a middle man or broker that re sells his discounted Ups or whomever rates to keep his volume high and discount large. I’m sorry I don’t have anyone to recommend there but keep researching on Google etc and see what comes up.
Cheers and all the best The Moving Doctor.

Posted at 00:10h, 03 FebruaryHey there!
I have a storage in Miami 5X4X8 ft and I want to bring them to BC Canada.
Which is the best option?
Could you recommend something?
Thank you
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 09:25h, 03 FebruaryHello Liz, if you are looking for a self pack and load option, I suggest looking at Pods, ABF and R&L carriers. They all have self pack and load options that should work out a lot cheaper than a conventional mover. If you are wanting to get quotes from movers and let them do all the packing and lifting, I would try the top 3 van lines, United, Atlas and Allied and also Google AMJ Campbell who is a Canadian mover which I believe has an office in Miami or near by in FL. Obviously we usually recommend our own company, UPakWeShip for moving overseas but in this case, our services from the USA to Canada are limited to baggage type shipments only so that’s why I am recommending some others. Now if you were moving elsewhere in the world requiring shipping or airfreight rather than a truck, then that’s our domain! I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions, cheers The Moving Doctor.

Posted at 02:53h, 30 Januaryhi i was looking at some quotes of sending a backpack of my tools home to Dublin in Ireland.
Im currently living in Perth Australia.
i got a quote of 400au dollors which i thought was a bit pricey the weight of the backpack is 20kg length 30cm width 20cm height 50 cm.
please could you help me to see if its cheaper another way possible i don’t mind waiting 3 months at the other end if its transported by sea.
kind regards
john
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 09:11h, 30 JanuaryHello John, I don’t think sea freight is going to be any cheaper I’m afraid, too many minimums involved! I would hand carry it on the plane with you, even if you upgrade to get a larger weight allowance? Also how about putting the tools in 1 or 2 small boxes and mailing them to Dublin? Lastly try DHL or TNT if you haven’t already.
Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Doctor

Any idea of how, company and cost
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 09:14h, 29 JanuaryHello Jill, the cheapest way will be to take them on the plane with you, may be upgrade you class to get a better baggage allowance and travel in comfort! If not I would pack them well in bubble wrap and put in boxes and get prices for shipping air from UPS, FedEx or DHL.
Hope that helps, cheers The Moving Doctor

About 25 medium sized boxes and if not too expensive also a few furniture items a couch 2 kitchen chairs and an end table . What are the costs and what is the best way to go about moving my personal belongings overseas? Thank-you!
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 09:24h, 26 JanuaryHello Brunetta, there is not much difference between delivering in Italy or Switzerland to be honest. We will however need to know where you are in Canada to work out a quote as that can make quite a difference. I’ll get Pete in our office to email you and find out some more details then he can advise some prices and service options, cheers The Moving Doctor

The Moving Doctor
Posted at 11:22h, 23 JanuaryHello Mex, unfortunately its not going to be cheap! It will have to be Packed and possibly crated for protection and then shipped. Depending where in UK and where in USA you will be looking at a minimum of $1,000 I am afraid. I hope that helps and sorry if you were thinking this will be a cheap operation! Posted at 23:25h, 19 JanuaryHi Mark,
I am about to move from Japan to the UK and need some advice. I am British and have lived in the Japan for 11 years. I am moving back and want to ship lots of persnal belongings; mostly clothing, shoes, books and a few ornaments and small devices (like my juicer). I want ot use Japan post service for ease and so have already made shipping lists. However, do I also have to include when I bought the item and the value of it?
I know I need a C3 form for UK customs, but is that 1 form per box, or 1 per shipment? Since they are going by Japan post airmail I am unsure. I will also send books (2 small boxes) by sea-mail, so assume they need 1 or 2 C3 forms as well.
Any advice would be very welcome
Many thanks
JJ
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 10:40h, 20 JanuaryHello JJ, you would need a C3 if you were airfreighting or shipping your items via a moving company or freight forwarder but I am not sure that you would need the same form for the Post Office. May be best idea would be to check the Post Office web site in UK.
Normally you would need one packing list explaining what is in each box and one C3 form for the whole shipment.
I hope that helps but do let me know if I can be of more assistance. Cheers The Moving Doctor
Rod kight
Posted at 18:43h, 19 Januaryhow much do you think it would cost to move a 2 bedroom house worth of items from houston to Liverpool, UK – will I have to pay custom and duties on my own possessions<
The Moving Doctor
Posted at 10:35h, 20 JanuaryHello Rod, it depends a little how much you have but if you wanted to fill up a 20 foot container and ship it door to door all inclusive your looking at about $3500.00 If you are just taking boxes and not much furniture we could do for about $1500.00
I will ask Pete to send you the part load options and Stephanie to email you the exact quote for a 20 foot self load container.
Regarding customs and duties. We have the forms here in the office and will help you to complete all the customs form C3. We also have power point and video help presentations to help you. See here.
Regarding the duties and taxes the rules state that you have to have lived outside of EU for the last 12 months, you declare that you are now moving your normal residency to EU and all items are over 6 months old. If this is the case normal household goods enter duty and tax free.
Hope that helps and look for emails from Pete and Stephanie. Cheers The Moving Doctor

My husband and I will move from Berlin to Los Angeles in the coming months. We are wondering about different shipping options, in particular the comparison between sending stuff in the mail vs trying to get “half a container”? Thanks for any help!
