    Hi,
I plan to move from Irving, Texas (USA) to Bahrain and wanted to get an estimate for the household stuff I wanted to ship. Mostly my stuff would contain, kitchenware, clothes, home décor, etc. The only big thing I plan to take with me are two leather sofas.

Kindly let me know if you could be of assistance to me.
    Thanks!

    Hello,
In October I am moving from Barcelona, Spain to San Diego, CA. I will bring household items like kitchenware, books, clothes, etc but no big furniture. I also have two bicycles. Probably about 10 large boxes plus the bikes. Can you give me a rough price estimate, please? Thanks!

    Hello,
I will be moving from California to London in a few months time. I’d like to know about different options as we want to bring our personal items. I’m not certain exactly how much we need to move but it is a lot of children items, kitchen items and other (2bdr). Are you able to send me different options please? Thank you,

Hello Emma, Yes we can send you different options. I’ll get Pete in our office here to email you some options and prices. The great think about our U Cubes for example is that they are door to door and a lump sum price whatever you can get to fit in them so you know exactly how much up front its going to cost you.

Hi Mark, I am moving a 20ft container from Antwerp to Edwardsville, Illinois (62025). I am working with someone to remove and pack my household into the container in Antwerp, but it seems we’re stuck from thereon out. Do you guys pick up a fully loaded container in Antwerp and take charge from there to my door in Illinois? Thanks!

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 08:30h, 30 April Reply

Hello Geert, yes we could position a container at your residence for your local packing company to load into. We would then truck it to Antwerp port, ship across to USA, clear customs and truck to your residence in Edwardsville for you or a local company to unload and take everything into your house.
I will get Chris Corder in our office to contact you and offer you some suggestions and prices.

    Good evening Mark!

My partner and I are moving from Ashington, Northumberland, to work at Britannica International School in Budapest. We haven’t shipped anything abroad before so are a little lost as to the best way to go about it.

We’ll have around 3 suitcases worth of clothes (of around 20 kg each), a ski bag (20 kg) and perhaps a box of books (20 kg).

Any advice would be very much appreciated,

    Thank you,

    Hi Mark!
I will soon have to move back to Germany. I spent the last 5 years in Los Angeles and quite a bit of stuff has accumulated.
The main items i want to ship is my 1960 Fiat and a equally old motorcycle, along with some tools and bits and bobs which would probably all fit inside the car.
now my question is as follows. i found a lot of websites that gave me quotes for either just car shipping or container shipping or partial container shipping… well what i want to find out is since the cheapest option seems to be a partial container, is that even possible with a car? i’d guess i’d have to fit it into some form of a crate but still it would be way cheaper if i’m not wrong…

I’d greatly appreciate your input on this.

    Thanks!

    Oliver

Posted at 09:03h, 20 April Reply

Hello Oliver, I think because of the volume having the car, motorcycle and some boxes, its going to be cheaper and a lot safer in a 20 foot self load shipping container. Not only is it door to door and an all inclusive lump sum price but you can fill it with as much stuff as you want for the same price. I will ask Stephanie in our office to email you a price and I can talk you though how to load and secure the bike and Fiat in the container for a safe voyage.
      Cheers The Moving Doctor.

Hello Jen, we unfortunately do not offer a self pack and load service from Canada to USA. As it is by road it tends to get operated by the same companies that do domestic moving rather than International. If you are looking for a self pack and load option I would Google and get quotes from PODS, ABF UPAK, R&L CARRIERS and possibly United Van Lines has a self pack service up there. I’m planning a move from Miami to Barcelona with my wife and son and would like your advice. I am a Brit with spanish residencia but we don’t yet have all of documentation supports for customs clearance is it administratively easier to ship into the UK and then move the shipment within the EU?

Our shipment is clothing and personal items.

Any advice would be much appreciated,
    Regards
    Jim

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 08:24h, 09 April Reply

Hello Jim, for small loads like this, we ship all our European shipments into our England terminal first. We then clear customs on each shipment using English paperwork as that is the first port of call into Europe. Once cleared customs we are then able to transport freely around Europe so in your case we would then truck it from England to Spain so we actually do exactly what you were thinking anyway! As long as you have lived in the USA for the last 12 months, you are declaring you are moving your residence now to Europe, and agree all your items are more than 6 months old there will be no taxes or duties on used personal items and clothes. All we need paperwork wise is a copy of passport and a C 3 customs form which we email you and help you complete and a packing list so we can show customs what’s in each box.
Very simple, we do this every day!
I’ll get Pete in our office here to send you our rates and options for you to Spain.
      Hope that helps!
PS I’m going to Barcelona on Vacation next month myself! I’m from Watford originally though!

Hello, I recently received a quote for the Baggage/Box service, the quote came in “bracket prices”
1-50 cubic feet for $xx.xx and 51-100 cubic feet for $xx.xx and so on.

Does this mean you charge the “full” amount if boxes ended up being 53 cubic feet (for example) or would we then be charged an amount within that “bracket” quote…depending on actual cubic feet. (hope this makes sense………………..)

    Thanks,
    H

    • The Moving Doctor
Posted at 09:14h, 07 April Reply

Hello Holly, yes it makes sense and is a good question. We charge a lump sum price for anything between 1 to 50 cubic feet and then a higher price 51 to 100 cubic feet. We do this to keep our pricing simple and easy to understand and do hopefully stop any disagreements of whether the shipment is 29 or 31 cubic feet for example if we were charging a rate per cubic foot.
Having said all that we will normally turn a blind eye to 2 cubic foot over but that’s about it. After that yes I’m afraid you are in the next bracket!

    Hi
We are looking to bring a solid wooden bed, and wooden desk from Kuala Lumpur to our house in London, if practicable. Would a part of a container be the best way, and could you indicate very roughly the order of cost ?
    Many thanks
    David

Hello David, yes a part load price would be best. I am going to send this over to Chris Smith in our London office to answer you and advise some rates. Cheers The Moving Doctor

    Hi,
We are moving from Fresno (California) to Budapest (Hungary) for work, and are considering shipping only key items — books, shoes, camping gear and such, as we would like to keep costs down. We are open to bringing it to the nearest port (San Franscisco?) if that lowers the cost.
The rates I have seen you quote on this blog are affordable, and I appreciate your transparency. Looking forward to hearing from you.

    thanks,

    anand

Hello Anand, if you drop your packed boxes off at out San Fran terminal it saves you some money that’s for sure. I’ll get Peter in our office though to email you all the rates and options available.
      Cheers and “Happy Packing”

    Hi
I am a doctor moving from Chicago to UK for work – but work do not pick up the tabm so we would want to keep costs down. 15 x 1 metre cubed boxes (plus a bicycle box) was about 1000 dollars to get here, took about 6 weeks.

Would be looking for a reciprocal service

Do you know any companies or where to start? Initial forays have given quotes of 3 or 4 thousand, which is ridiculous

    Thanks

Hello Ian, I think the problem might be you saying you have1cbm boxes which are huge!! I am thinking you probably only have 15 1 cubic foot boxes making a total of 15 cubic feet and not 15 cubic meters which is 530 cubic feet or half a 20 foot container load.
I will get Peter in our office to email you some rates which will be as you requested under a thousand dollars. We do a lot of these small shipments across to the UK so I am confident you have found the best place now to get that reciprocal service!
Hope this helps, cheers The Moving Doctor.

    Hi Mark,

I am moving from Seattle to Geneva. I will be renting a furnished apt. I would like to take some personal things such as books, family photo albums, my harp , skis about the volume of a walk in closet. I may also ship my car, however I am not sure this is a good idea. What is the best way to go about this and the most cost effective?
    Thanks,
    Nancy

Hello Nancy, thanks for the message, I will ask Pete in our office here to email you some options without the car and Stephanie can quote you on a self load container for your things plus the car. So look out for info from them both on your email. Cheers The Moving Doctor

I am getting ready for our move to England and trying to decide on a date to order our shipping container to be brought to our home to pack. Are Saturdays and Sundays an option? Also, if we don’t get the container loaded in the 2 hrs allowed, is there a charge for extra time after?

    Thanks,
    Nancy

Hello Nancy, we don’t generally book containers for the weekend as our office is not open. In the US, if you go over the 2 hours free time then its $95 per hour while the driver and truck waits. Its a good idea to have everything packed and ready for loading when the truck comes. May be have everything in the garage or front room or if the weather is nice on the driveway ready. Make sure everything is packed and numbered so that the packing list is all done in advance so all you have to worry about is the loading and making everything fit nice and tight. Its just like an adult game of Tetris….
Good luck and let us know if you need more information.
We have a presentation on UPak TV about loading Containers here.
Hope this helps, cheers The Moving Doctor

Planning a move overseas to the Maldives. I know it’s possible to rent furnished homes on the island we will be living on but we are trying to weigh the cost of shipping and having our own things rather than furnishings by others. Can you tell me an estimated cost to ship a container from Portland, OR to Maldives.

Hello…I am returning home to the UK in Aug/Sept but would like to ship over approx 3 or 4 boxes of personal goods.. The boxes I have are 2’x2’x2′. Can you direct me to the cheapest way to get them back to Cornwall, UK from Victoria, BC please. They can take as long as they want to get there but I am on a budget so the cost is the most important thing. Thank you, Victoria

We need to ship some boxes from Florida to London, or to Spain Mallorca. The prices go sky high to 260Pounds per box.

What option could you offer us.

We can pack 2-4 standard boxes to any weight to what the best possible price would be.
We need to ship boxes, little tools, personal effect etc.

We hope to hear from you.

    Kind regards,

    Wendi and Jeroen

Hello Wendi and Jeroen, Pete in our office here can send you some prices and baggage options. Our lump sum baggage rates would work best for you I think. Prices will be a lot cheaper going to London rather than Majorca as we load up shipping containers from here to London every week. To get to Majorca we would have to transship over England to Spain and then ferry out to Majorca which costs a lot more so if you have a way to get them from England to Spain that would be cheaper for you. Anyway watch out for Pete’s email and let me know if any other questions, cheers The Moving Doctor
