Is your private information at risk when moving overseas?

PRIVATE &CONFIDENTIAL StampIn the United States, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) distributes information of anyone shipping overseas to companies who then publish it online. This might be fine if you are a large commercial cargo shipper but not if its your personal effects and your private information that is being shared on the web. Although CBP provides a way to request confidentiality to protect this information for private shippers, they do not inform the shipping public of this option. Many people who are moving overseas are shocked to find their name and shipment information freely available on the Internet. They of course blame the international moving company since they believe they were the only ones with access to this information, but it has nothing to do with the international mover.
Thanks to the hard work of the International Association of Movers to whom we are a member, you can now go to this link and complete the form on the website where you can request confidentiality.

It is important to circulate this information to anyone that is moving in or out of the USA to make sure their information stays confidential.
