Shipping Large Items Made Easy
A Better Way To Ship Your Large Items With UPakWeShip
Step 1. Measure Your Shipment. When shipping large items across country or internationally, you'll need to know the total cubic feet (volume) of your large item and also the weight.
Calculating volume is as easy as measuring the length, width and height of your large item and then multiplying those numbers together.
EXAMPLE: Your chest of drawers is 4 feet in length, 2 feet wide and 4 feet in height. Then the volume of your chest of drawers is 4 (length) x 2 (width) x 4 (height) = 32 cubic feet.
Pro Tip:Remember to keep your measurements consistent when performing your calculations. Don't mix inches with feet or feet with meters; doing so will give you incorrect volumes and may end up costing you more!
Step 2. Choose Your Shipping Equipment. Now that you have your shipping volume of your large item(s) all calculated, it's time to choose the large shipping container or large shipping boxes and international moving options that will be able to fit your item.
Pro Tip:If your items don’t fit in one of our containers, here’s how you do it: fully wrap the item all around at least twice in bubble wrap and secure with lots of duct tape or 2 inch packing tape. Now you need to make a box. With flat cardboard cartons split open or using cardboard sheets (you can buy from Staples) Make large overlapping sections with the cardboard adding 4 inches on every dimension of your bubble wrapped item and tape together a box. Use lots of duct tape or 2 inch packing tape. It doesn’t need to look pretty - it just needs to get there. Before loading your “thing” into your made box, crush up newspaper into balls and fill in the bottom 4 inches for padding, do the same for the sides and lastly the top.
Depending on dimensions, the item can be shipped as is or possibly placed and secured on a pallet.
Step 3. Choose Shipping Options.Once you've got everything packed up and ready to go, it's time to look at a few of our transit options that allow you to customize how your large item gets shipped:
1. Door to Door: With this option we'll arrange a pick up at your home or business and deliver to the door of your destination.
2. Terminal to Door: Terminal to door allows you to save a bit of money by having you drop off your shipment at one of our shipping terminals and then we'll take it directly to the door of your destination.
3. Door to Terminal: Same idea as Terminal to Door except we'll pick up your shipment at your door and ship it to a terminal closest to your destination.
4.Terminal to Terminal: Exactly how it sounds, you'll drop off your shipment at one of our shipping terminals and then we'll take it to a terminal closest to your destination.
