No Country in Dublin
I saw on BBC America this morning that Garth Brooks has cancelled 5 shows in Dublin for later this month after a row with the Dublin City Council.
Apparently there was such demand for the 3 shows that the promoter or whomever went ahead and scheduled another 2 gigs selling a total of four hundred thousand tickets.
Trouble is Dublin City Council will only issue licenses for a maximum of 3 shows at the Croke Stadium so as not to disrupt local residents and the extra strain on police security etc. that is involved with a large concert. I believe this rule has always been in place so you would have though the promoter would have known that! One Direction could have sold out in Dublin 6 nights in a row but knew they were only allowed to play 3 gigs. Garth says I either do the 5 shows or no shows or words to that affect so we are now at a no show!
People from Ireland, The UK and Western Europe have bought tickets, booked plane seats and reserved hotels for this comeback special. To say they are peed off is an under statement. He has been in semi retirement for over 10 years and last played in Dublin 17 years ago.
Now I know Garth has “Friends In Low Places” but I don’t think he will have friends anywhere if he carries on with this attitude.
I’m all for “Stand By Your Man” but in this case, sorry Garth you have walked the wrong line and straight in the ring of fire!
Surely you could have played the 3 gigs in Dublin and may be played two more up the road in Belfast or Cork or somewhere?
Being in International Moving we get our fair share of logistical issues but I have learnt over the years that fighting or throwing your toys out the pram and sulking is not the way to go.
You need to COMPROMISE!
Anyway that’s my 2 cents and as they say “Its 5 O Clock Somewhere”
Cheers,
The Moving Doctor
