How Do I Know How Much Stuff I Have?
We hear this all the time so here are a few tips and tricks to help you figure out your shipping volume which is very important when moving overseas.
Just A Few Boxes
If you just have boxes, stack them up in a pile and measure the total length, width and height of the stack. If you have measured in inches, multiply the three measurements together and then divide that big number by 1728 and that is the volume in cubic feet.
Large Items
If you have a large piece like a bed or dresser and are trying to figure out the shipping volume measure it as above and you can get the cubic feet of the item and then figure out if it’s worth shipping or not.
Pallet Shipping
If you are going to be shipping your things on a pallet, measure a rectangle on the floor and using masking tape make a 48 x 40 inch rectangle. (That is the measurement of a pallet). Now stack your items in the rectangle to see how it’s going to fit on your pretend pallet. If you are moving with UPakWeShip don’t worry about the 3-4 inch height of the pallet as we don’t charge you or take into consideration the height of the actual pallet.
U-CRATE Shipping
If you are going to be using a U-CRATE then get the inside dims from the web site U Crate page and measure and map out the size using masking tape on the floor and wall to get a visual of the size of the U Crate in advance so you can figure out if all your items will fit.
Container Shipping
If you have a small house load or some large pieces of furniture chances are the cheapest way of shipping the items is in a 20 foot shipping container. To get a visual idea of the size of a 20 foot international shipping container, imagine getting everything to fit into your single garage. If you want the exact dimensions of our shipping containers, click here. If you don’t think everything will fit in a single garage, will it all fit into a double garage? If the answer is yes then you will need a 40 foot shipping container.
If you are still not sure how much volume you have, try our automatic volume calculator by clicking here. You just enter the items you want to ship and the calculator will tell you the volume.
