Moving to The Netherlands, part one

Moving to The Netherlands, part one.
I am starting to get prepared for the big move from the USA to The UPakWeShip Netherlands office. You are probably thinking, oh it must be easy for you seeing you are in the business of international moving. In some ways yes that is true, but probably like many of you, we also have to figure things out ourselves, as we do not have a corporate relocation company helping and advising us.
One of our problems that I am sure many potential people about to move overseas has, is the question of when to ship your stuff! Here in SC the temps will soon be starting to fall from the warm 80’s we are used to, so we will soon be having to ditch t-shirts, flip-flops and shorts for warmer clothing. The problem is we will definitely be needing winter clothing in Holland when we get there. So what do we do?
Like many predicaments, it means going shopping 🙂 Yes we bought some new winter clothes, somewhat warmer and smarter than we are used to in SC and together with some shirts, shoes and winter coats we have gone ahead and loaded a U Crate 50 well in advance of our departure so it will be there waiting to be delivered when we arrive. This is great as we are traveling to Virginia first on our way out of here to see family and then flying with Sir Richard over to London. Actually to tell you the truth I do not know if he will be on the flight with us but we will be on one of his planes! Once arriving in London, we are getting a train into London and then down to Devon to see more family and UPakWeShip, UK for a few days before flying on one of those cheapo airlines that charge extra for everything  to Amsterdam. Therefore, you can see why we did not want to fly with a lot of baggage and apart from anything else, it wouldn’t all fit in a little UK or European car!
So step one, we are shipping some baggage in a U Crate 50 in advance of our International move.
Just as I would recommend to anyone else moving overseas, we are keeping our USA home for the moment and plan to rent it out furnished so we are only shipping personal items to Europe. We are hoping to rent a furnished small house or apartment when we get there. I am thinking one or two U Crate 100’s will probably do it next month when we leave but we will cross that bridge in part two or three!
I will update you with the further adventures on moving to Europe but in the meantime, enjoy the pictures of our U Crate shipping and email me if you have any questions.

Cheers and Happy Packing! “The International Moving Doctor
